In the Hawks Big Five game against Penn van Grinsven scored a career-high 27 points. The redshirt senior forward made 12 of 20 field goal attempts, and went 3 of 4 from the foul line. In addition to her scoring mark van Grinsven set a career mark in rebounds pulling down 15 rebounds, 5 came off the offensive glass. She also contributed 2 assist, 2 steals, and a blocked shot. Against UCLA van Grinsven, playing with a stomach virus, scored 4 points and grabbed 3 rebounds.

LA SALLE 4 – 10 Overall, 0 – 2 Big Five

Results – Lost 54 – 50 at Rutgers

Summary –

Rutgers 54 LaSalle 50 – It was a not a pretty offensive show as the halftime score was 13 – 11 Rutgers. The offenses heated up in the second half. The Knights made 20 of 56 shots (35.7%) but only 1 of 12 three-pointers. LaSalle converted 14 of 49 shots (28.6%), 4 of 13 from deep. LaSalle committed 26 turnovers while Rutgers had 20. Shanel Harrison led all scorers with 17 points scoring all her points in the second half. Harrison went 5 of 8 from the floor and made all 6 free throws. Brittany Wilson scored 12 points and Jordan Mosley had 10 to round out the double figures scorers for LaSalle.

PENN – 6 – 5 Overall, 1 – 1 Big Five

Results – Lost 66 – 53 vs. Saint Joseph’s at the Palestra

Summary –

Saint Joseph’s 66 Penn 53 – The Red and Blue came out in the second half with an 8 – 2 run to take a 29 – 26 lead. With Penn holding a 33 – 32 lead with 12:09 to play, Saint Joseph’s went on a 17 – 3 run to open a 49 – 36 advantage at the 7:44 mark. Chatilla van Grinsven scored 9 points in the run. She had a career-high 27 points overall and 15 rebounds. Alyssa Baron was the only Quaker to score in double figures getting 12.

SAINT JOSEPH’S 9 –5 Overall, 1 – 1 Big Five

Results – Lost 73 – 65 at #17/18 UCLA, Won 66 – 53 at Penn

Summary –

UCLA 73 Saint Joseph’s 65 – The Hawks trailed 48 – 36 in the second half, then mounted a rally that brought Saint Joe’s to within a point at 61- 60 with 4:07 to play. The Bruins responded by scoring 9 of the next 11 point to take control. UCLA finished the game making 3 of 4 from the foul line in the last 36 seconds to preserve the victory. Erin Shields scored a career-high 24 points for the Hawks hitting 9 of 15 from the floor and 6 of 11 from beyond the arc. Natasha Cloud scored 10 points and added 5 assists. Ashley Robinson contributed 11 points and pulled down a team-high 7 rebounds.

Saint Joseph’s 66 Penn 53 – The Hawks got a combined 46 points from Chatilla van Grinsven and Natasha Cloud to even their Big Five record at 1 – 1. Penn came out in the second half with an 8 – 2 run to take a 29 – 26 lead. TEMPLE 5 – 8 Overall, 0 – 1 Big Five

Results – Lost at Georgetown 66 – 58, Lost 61 -58 at Howard

Summary –

Georgetown 66 Temple 58 – The Owls made a season-high 11 three-pointers and had two players set career marks, but Temple could not capitalize falling to the Hoyas. The game was tied at 56 with 3:55 to play. Temple got only one more field goal as Georgetown put the game away hitting 8 of 9 free throws the rest of the way. Howard 61 Temple 58 – The Owls have now lost six straight games, very few in as frustration a fashion as this game. Temple led by 17 points with 13:28 remaining, but would score only one more field goal for the rest of the game. Howard gave Temple a chance missing three of their last four free throws, but Temple could not come up with the equalizer. Saadia Doyle led all scorers netting 32 points for the Bison. Turnovers, again, were a problem for the Owls who committed 21 leading to 24 Bison points. Natashia Thames led Temple with 19 points. Tyonna Williams added 14 points.

VILLANOVA 11 – 2 Overall, 1 – 0 Big East,3 – 0 Big Five

Results – Won 54 – 51 at Cincinnati

Summary –

Villanova 54 Cincinnati 51 – Guard Caroline Coyer scored the game winning three-pointer with 21 seconds left to cap the Villanova comeback against Cincinnati. The Wildcats went on a 14 – 4 run over the last 5 minutes. A Megan Pearson three tied the game at 49 with 1:17 on the clock to help set up Coyer’s key basket. There were 8 lead changes and 4 ties in the contest. Laura Sweeney led Villanova with 15 points and 56 rebounds. Lauren Burford scored 14 points while Coyer added 10.

Next Game – 1/9/2013 vs. DePaul at the Pavilion

DREXEL 8 – 4 Overall, 1 – 0 CAA

Results – Lost 74 – 59 at Princeton, Won 76 – 55 vs. Towson at the DAC

Summary –

Princeton 74 Drexel 59 – Turnovers proved to be the undoing for the Dragons as they committed 15 in the first half leading to a 14 point halftime lead for the Tigers. Drexel mounted a second half comeback using a 10 – 0 run to get to within 54 – 45 with 10:49 remaining. That would be as close as the Dragons would get. Hollie Mershon led Drexel with 14 points. Megan Creighton added 11 points. Nicki Jones scored 8 points while pulling down 7 rebounds and blocking a season-high 4 shots. Niveen Rasheed led all scorers with 22 points and 8 rebounds for the Tigers.

Drexel 76 Towson 55 – The Dragons shot 50% while holding the Tigers to 33% winning their initial CAA game of the season. Drexel had 25 assists on 28 field goals.
