Camden Price Kicking for Many Goals This Season

Owls Kicker On Lou Groza Award Watch List

August 21, 2023 –

When Temple kicker Camden Price lines up for a field goal or point after touchdown, the kick will mean more than points for his team. The graduate student needs to be good as he is on the watch list for the Lou Groza Award. But there is a higher purpose for the footballs to be splitting the uprights.

Foundation to Raise Funds for ALS

Price is launching a fundraising campaign in support of ALS research and patient care. The aim is to establish awareness of something bigger than himself.

“Temple football and I will be raising money for the ALS Foundation based here in Philly with a goal of raising $25,000,” Price announced. “There will be two ways to get involved. The first option is a one-time donation. The second option, donors will have the opportunity to pledge for every point Temple scores in the kicking game. Support will not only encourage me to excel on the field, but also make a tangible impact on the lives of ALS patients and their families.”

Last season the kicking game would account for 67 points. Price scored 57 himself on 13 field goals and 18 successful extra point conversions on 19 attempts. Rory Bell contributed 10 points after touchdowns going 10 for 10.

Lou Groza Award Watch List

The award is named after NFL Hall of Famer kicker Lou “The Toe” Groza who played for 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. It is symbolic of the top kicker in college football, with accuracy and number of field goals being the key determinants for the winner. Price was named to the watch list as he was good on 13 of 14 field goal attempts last season. He sees being named as one of thirty players as an honor just by being recognized.

“I was really honored to be on that short list,” Price said. “It is really nice as a kicker. We don’t get much credit all the time. So it’s nice every once in awhile to get a pat on the back. It motivated me to get it done on the field and actually do it. It was exciting to see.”

Price would become the regular kicker in week five. He comes into the season as the top kicker, and is motivated to grow even more in his sixth collegiate season.

“I’m excited to just have a full season under my belt, go for a bowl game, conference championship in my last year,” said Price.

His longest field goal was from 49-yards away against UCF. Price had a season-high 4 field goals in the game with USF.

The Upcoming Game Against Miami

He is no stranger to kicking in games with Florida teams as Price is a transfer from Miami. Interestingly enough the Owls host the Hurricanes on September 23rd. There will be incentive as Price knows who is on the other sideline.

“There’s no hard feelings, but it is interesting playing against you old team,” Price observed. “I do know the guys still there and coaches, so it’s like a homecoming game a little bit. A little clash of my two circles. It’ll be interesting.”

Lou Groza Award Future Announcements

In November the twenty semifinalists will be named, then a panel will announce the top three finalists on November 28th. The 32nd annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, presented by the Orange Bowl, is presented at the awards banquet on December 4th in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Former finalists Joshua Karty of Stanford and Alabama kicker Will Reichard appear on the Watch List.
