Malik Cunningham Sets Personal Mark at the Men’s Track & Field Championships

Cunningham Places 7th in Triple Jump Setting His Collegiate Record

Villanova got two points on the team scoreboard at the Men’s Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Austin when triple jumper Malik Cunningham placed 7th in the event. His jump of 16.17m is his personal best, and Cunningham did that on his third jump. The distance is the 7th longest in program history, and is the best result in the jumps for Villanova in 44 years.

The Nova senior went for a distance of 15.78m on his second jump.

The national champion is Jaydon Hibbert of Arkansas posting a distance of 17.56m which is a facility record.

Earlier in the night Liam Murphy competed for Villanova in the final of the 1500 Meters. Murphy finished 11th running a time of 3:45.72. His splits were; 45.97, 1:03.70, 1:01.01, and 54.95.

Washington placed first and second in the event. Nathan Green in the national champion running a time of 3:42.78 nosing out his teammate Joe Waskom by .15 seconds.
