Philly Women’s College Basketball Weekly Awards

Player of the Week – Saint Joseph’s Hawks who won both games this week to improve to 8 – 0 for the season and 3 – 0 against city opponents. The eight-game streak to start the season is the best under Coach Cindy Griffin and the second-best in program history. The 1984-85 team won its first ten games to begin the season. Saint Joe’s defeated Boston U. and Drexel during the week. The win over the Dragons broke a five-game losing streak in the series for the Hawks. Saint Joseph’s is getting a full team effort. Most notably contributing to the team success are: Talya Brugler, who recorded her firs double-double of the season against Drexel getting 15 points and 11 rebounds, while averaging 19 points and 8.5 boards; Mackenzie Smith who scored 17 against the Dragons; Laura Ziegler who posted 12 rebounds in the Boston U. game and 10 points on Drexel; and Katie Jekot who continues to fill the stat sheet averaging 8.5 points per game, 5.5 rebounds and assists.
