Philly D1 Women’s Soccer Weekly Wrap – Games of October 24 – 30

October 31, 2022 –

Saint Joseph’s Heading to the Atlantic 10 Semifinal Round, Drexel Season Ends in a CAA Semifinal Loss to Northeastern

The Saint Joseph’s Hawks downed VCU in Richmond 1 – 0 an Atlantic 10 Quarterfinal game. Natalie Evans scored in the 31st minute, and goalie Katie Cappelletti made 3 saves for her 8th clean slate. The Hawks are in the league semifinal for the second consecutive year….The Drexel Dragons saw their season come to an end losing to Northeastern 2 – 0 in the league tournament semifinal game. Drexel advanced to that game defeating William & Mary in the quarterfinal round 2 – 1, the second postseason victory in program history. In the win Delaney Lappin scored twice in the second half to erase a halftime lead by the Pride. Lappin, a junior, set the single-season record for goals with 12 and points with 27. The 11 wins is the second most in program history….The Villanova Wildcats got a 1 – all draw at Providence. Makayla Stadler tied the game in the 74th minute, assisted by Emma Weaver. The Friars scored in the first minute. The Wildcats did not qualify for the Big East Tournament….The University of Pennsylvania Quakers fell 1 – 0 at Brown. Goalie Laurence Gladu saved 4 shots….The Temple Owls lost their season-ender 3 – 0 at Houston. The Cougars netted goals twice in the first half, the initial goal came 4 minutes into the game. The Owls had 3 shots, all on goal.

Games of October 24 – October 30, 2022

DREXEL 11 – 3 – 5 Overall, 5 – 2 – 2 CAA

Results – Won 2 – 1 vs. William & Mary in the Quarterfinals, Lost 2 – 0 vs. Northeastern in the Semifinals

Summary – It was an award-winning year for the Dragons. Lappin was named the Attacking Player of the Year in the league. Annalena O’Reilly is the Midfielder Player of the Year. The Coach of the Year award goes to Ray Goon.

LA SALLE 8 – 8 – 2 Overall, 3 – 6 – 1 Atlantic 10

Summary –

Results– Lost 1 – 0 vs. Brown

Summary – Penn did not register a shot on goal at Providence.

Results – Won 1 – 0 vs. VCU in the Atlantic 10 Quarterfinal

Summary – The 8 shutouts by Cappelletti ties the program record for third most in a single season. She has 15 career blank sheets.

Next Game – November 2nd at #1 Seed Saint Louis

TEMPLE 1 – 11 – 4 Overall, 0 – 8 – 0 AAC

Results – Lost 3 – 0 at Houston

Summary – Kyla Burns made 6 saves facing 17 shots, 9 on goal. The Owls did not win in the American this season.

Results – Tied 1 – 1 at Providence

Summary – Megan McClay played 70:40 and recorded 6 saves. Payton Woodward saved 3 in 19:20.
