Saint Joseph’s and La Salle Post A10 Wins, Villanova Gets First Big East Victory

Both La Salle Explorers and Saint Joseph’s won conference games this by a shutout. The La Salle Explorers won on the road beating the George Washington University Colonials 1 – 0. Cameron Cox scored the winner in the 57th minute. Bella Gonsewski assisted on the golden goal. The Saint Joseph’s Hawks won on Hawk Hill 2 – 0 over the Fordham Rams. Ashley Orendac scored her third goal of the season in the 24th minute. Leia Khairy netted her first collegiate goal in the 73rd. The Villanova Wildcats posted Big East win number one defeating the Creighton Blue Jays 2 – 1 at home on a goal by Brice McInroy in the 86th minute breaking a 1-all tie. Earlier in the week the Wildcats lost 1 – 0 in double-overtime to the Providence Friars. Meg Hughes won it in the 107th minute. The Drexel Dragons tied in their CAA match at William & Mary. No goals were scored in the game. Goal Keeper Miyuki Schoyen recorded her 6th career shutout. The University of Pennsylvania Quakers lost 2 – 0 at Columbia. The Lions scored twice between the 56th and 60th minute. Goal Keeper Laurence Gladu made 7 saves on the 9 shots on goal she faced. The Temple Owls lost 2 – 1 at ECU. The Owls scored first on a goal by Emily Kavanaugh in the 17th minute. Kavanaugh leads the Owls in goals with 7 and points at 18 this season. The game winner came in the 67th minute by Tori Riggs.

Drexel, Penn, and Saint Joseph’s will be playing a home game this week. The Dragons host UNCW, Dartmouth will also be in West Philadelphia meeting the Quakers in the Ivy League. Saint Louis will be playing Saint Joe’s on Hawk Hill. La Salle goes to the Bluffs in Pittsburgh to play Duquesne. Villanova travels to Washington DC for a Big East game with Georgetown. Temple plays its final non-conference game at LIU.

Games of October 4 – October 11, 2021

DREXEL 5 – 4 – 2 Overall, 1 – 1 – 1 CAA

Results – Tied 0 – 0 (2 OT) at William and Mary

Summary – The Dragons have a picket fence record in the CAA. Drexel had a 16 – 11 advantage in shots, 8 – 4 on goal, but nothing got past each keeper. Delaney Lappin put up 8 shots, 5 on goal. Tribe goal keeper Zoe Doughty made all 8 saves required.

Next Game – October 14 vs. UNCW at Vidas Field

LA SALLE 4 – 7 – 2 Overall, 2 – 3 – 1 Atlantic 10

Results – Won 1 – 0 at George Washington

Summary – Explorers goal keeper Michela Auguardo saved 7 shots in her third career shutout.

Next Game – October 14 at Duquesne

PENN – 6 – 3 – 2 Overall, 1 – 2 – 0 Ivy League

Results– Lost 2 – 0 at Columbia

Summary – Penn outshot Columbia 12 – 4 on goal, but did not find the back of the net. Sizzy Lawton recorded 3 shots, 2 on goal to lead the Quakers. Nata Ramirez assisted on both goals by the Lions. 

Next Game – October 16 vs. Dartmouth at Rhodes Field

SAINT JOSEPH’S  3 – 9 – 2 Overall, 3 – 3 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Won 2 – 0 vs. Fordham

Summary – Hawks goal keeper Katie Cappelletti made 4 saves getting her 5th career shutout.

Next Game – October 14 vs. Saint Louis

TEMPLE 3 – 5 – 3 Overall, 1 – 3 – 0 AAC

Results – Lost 2 – 1 at ECU

Summary – The Owls were outshot 20 – 6 by the Pirates, but only 6 -5 on goal.

Next Game – October 12 at LIU

VILLANOVA 7 – 7 – 0 Overall, 1 – 5 – 0

Results – Lost 1 – 0 (2 OT) vs. Providence, Won 2 – 1 vs. Creighton

Summary – Goal keeper Megan McClay saved 5 of 6 shots on goal by Providence. In the Creighton game Villanova fell behind 1 – 0 in the 6th minute. The Wildcats came back when Cloe O’Neill tied the game in the 18th minute. Nova had a 7 – 4 edge in shots on goal.

Next Game – October 14 at Georgetown
