Villanova Claims 3rd Consecutive Big East Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship

Villanova Women Total 197.50 Points; Men Finish 3rd With 121 Points

The Villanova women’s outdoor track and field team won their third consecutive Big East championship. It was the 13th overall for the program. The Wildcats scored 197.50 points and won eight individual events. Lydia Olivere won two events. McKenna Keegan was on a relay winning team and got an event title. Danielle Burns won an individual event and was on a first place relay team. The meet took place at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, OH.

The men’s team placed third getting 121 points and 3 individual titles. Sean Dolan won an individual event and was on a championship relay squad.

Connecticut won the men’s championship scoring 294 points. The Huskies were especially strong in the field events. Georgetown took second place with 196 points. Villanova outdistanced UConn in scoring who got 157.50 points.

Olivere, Keegan, and Burns got to the top of the podium two times each.

Olivere won the 5000m and the 3000m Steeplechase covering the 5000m distance in 16:10.37, and ran a 9:57.34 in the Steeplechase. Keegan placed first in the 800m in a time of 2:05.86, and was on the 4x400m Relay team that crossed the finish line in 3:38.86. The team consisted of Burns, Madison Martinez, Amari Onque-Shabazz and Keegan. In addition Burns took the 400m Hurdles in 1:00.73.

Other titlists for the Wildcats were Anna Helwigh in the 1500m with a time of 4:24.03. Grayce French won the Discus with a throw of 52.35m. Taryn Ashby won the Javelin with a distance of 49.89m.

The men’s team saw Sean Dolan get an individual title in the 800m running a 1:48.29. He was on the 4×800 Relay team with Nicholas Ackerman, Miller Anderson, and anchor Josh Phillips. The team won the race with a time of 7:25.26.

Jadyn Anczarski took the Discus with a throw of 49.52m.

The teams prepare for the NCAA East Meet in Jacksonville, FL on May 27th through 29th.
