Villanova Men’s Team Places Third While the Women’s Team Get Fourth Place
Connecticut the Men’s and Women’s Champions

The Big East Outdoor Track & Field Championships concluded over the weekend at the Jumbo Elliott Track on the campus of Villanova University. Connecticut won both divisions placing at the top of the men’s team rankings with 284 points. In the women’s rankings UConn scored 214.5 points. Villanova finished third on the men’s side with 122 points, 5 points behind second place DePaul. The Nova women’s team got fourth place totaling 108 points. St. John’s and DePaul placed ahead of Villanova.
Villanova Big East Champions
Each athlete and team who placed first earned 10 points for the Wildcats on the overall standings.
On the 5000m Run Villanova swept the top three places in the race to earn 24 team points. Liam Murphy won the race in 13:43.32. Josh Phillips ran second in 13:44.93. Haftu Strintzos was third running a time of 13:45.70.
Sean Dolan won the 800m Run crossing the finish line in 1:50.60.
The 1500m title went to Sean Donoghue who covered the distance in 3:44.90. Two other Wildcat runners scored points as Devon Comber was fifth with a time of 3:46.55 and Charlie O’Donovan placed 8th running a time of 3:48.51. Villanova got 15 team points in the event.
The Men’s 4x800m Relay Team hit the tape first in 7:17.96. Miller Anderson, Sean Donoghue, Liam Murphy, and Sean Dolan carried the baton for Nova.
In the field Malik Cunningham hopped, skipped, and jumped 15.87m to place first in the Triple Jump.
In the Women’s 10,000m Run Villanova placed first and second to earn 18 team points. Sadie Sigfstead won the event with a time of 34.42.83. Ariana Gardizy placed second running a time of 34:46.44.
In field events Roschell Clayton won the High Jump clearing 1.78m.
The Pole Vault went to Ashley Preston with a height of 3.87m.
Men’s Dash Events
Jakob Kunzer placed fourth in the 400m Dash with a time of 48.27 to get 5 team points. Amiri Prescod got 6th place and 3 points in the 100m Dash. Villanova placed third in the 4x400m Relay. Nicholas Mollica, James Milgie, Ronan O’Neill, and Kunzer ran a time of 3:12.15 and put 6 points on the team total board. The 4x100m Relay Team of William Seijas, Luke Rakowitz, O’Neill, and Sanjay Persaud placed 7th. The time was 44.03 for 2 team points. Nova got 5 points when Mollica ran a 52.73 to finish 4th in the 400m Hurdles.
Men’s Distance Events
Villanova runners placed 8th in the 10,00m Run and 3,000m Steeplechase. Colton Walker covered the distance in the 10,000m in 30:06.96 while Evan Addison ran a 9:00.71 in the Steeplechase.
Men’s Field Events
The Wildcats earned 9 points in the Javelin Throw. Tanner Jameson (63.52m) placed third while Nickolas Coffey (60.88m) was fourth. Tristan Bolinsky (48.25m) was third in the Discus Throw. He placed 6th in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 52.58m. Bennett Hemphill got fifth place in the Pole Vault with a height of 4.07m. In the Long Jump Daelyn Nwaobasi (6.55m) was seventh. Liam Anderson placed 8th in the shot put with a throw of 12.97m.
Women’s Dash Events
Villanova got a 2nd and 6th place finish in the 100m Hurdles. James Livingston ran a 13.58 while Jada Thomas hit the finish line in 15.62. The 4x100m Relay team of Thomas, Myonica Jackson, Alexis Martin and Caroline Carlson turned in a time of 48.84 for 6th place. The 4x400m Relay got 5th place in 3:48.15. Jackson, Madison Martinez, Micah Trusty, and Martin ran for Nova.
Women’s Middle Distance
The Wildcats put 12 points on the scoreboard when Trusty got second place in the 800m crossing the finish line 2:05.71. Martinez was fifth in 2:05.88.
The 4x800m Relay team of Emily Robinson, Anna Helwigh, Lydia Olivere, and Alex Stasichin carried the baton in 8:46.15 to place 3rd and get 6 points.
Women’s Distance Events
In the 3,000m Steeplechase the Wildcats earned 14 points. Olivere (9:54.20) finished second while Helwigh (10:03.91) was the third place finisher.
Sigfstead got 5th place with a time of 16:26.26 for 4 points in the 5,000m Run.
Women’s Field Events
In the Discus and Javelin Throw Villanova had fourth place finishes. Faith Haught (40.84m) in the Discus, and Olivia Morgan (42.53m) in the Javelin. Caroline Carlson (5.46m) got 8th place in the Long Jump.

For the qualifiers the next meet is the NCAA East Preliminary in Jacksonville, FL May 24 and 26th.
