Temple Places 8th in American Athletic Conference Preseason Football Poll

September 2, 2020 –

The American announced its preseason football poll. Temple was selected for 8th place receiving 88 points.

UCF was the overall choice for the top spot. The Golden Knights totaled 204 points and got 10 first-place votes. The Cincinnati Bearcats were a close second getting 201 points and had 7 votes for first-place. Memphis received two votes for first-place, and Navy, the first opponent for Temple, got a single first-place vote.

In the upcoming season the American will be a single division conference. The top two teams will play for the conference championship.

Maxwell Award nominee Re’Mahn Davis will lead the running backs. He rushed for 936 yards in his freshman season. The Owls return Jordan Blue to the receiving corps. The defense has five single-digit players coming back, led by Bednarik Award nominee Ifeanyi Maijeh. Isaiah Graham-Mobley, Daniel Archibong, Christian Braswell, and Amir Tyler, all single-digit players, will bolster the defense.

Temple is taking small steps in preparation for the season opener on September 26th in Annapolis. The team has yet to have a full team practice adhering to city restrictions where only 50 people are allowed at each session.

Presently, there have been some first team reps. More volume is needed for the squad to be ready and safe to play. But small steps are encouraging.

“It’s fun to see the guys compete,” said Owls coach Rod Carey.
