The Fraud Five by Mike Kern – Week 12 Edition

November 17, 2019

And once again, more fraud five. Just because.

Baylor – I love Matt Rhule, and his team was a 10-point underdog at home. But unbeaten Baylor was beating Oklahoma by 25 in the second period and scored three points the rest of the way to lose on a late field goal. That shouldn’t happen. Maybe the Bears will get another shot at OU in the Big 12 title game. This was, by the way, the largest comeback ever for the Sooners.

Kansas State – The 24th-ranked team in the land shouldn’t be going down at home by 14 to West Virginia. Sorry.

Duke – It’s OK to lose to Syracuse, which has been a big disappointment, even at home. But 49-6? I don’t think so.

Michigan State – It’s OK to lose to your dreaded in-state rival, especially on the road. I mean, Sparty was a double-digit dog. But 44-10 seems a little much, even for a team that like the Orange has been lacking something.

Georgia Tech – It’s OK to lose to Virginia Tech, which was a touchdown favorite on the road. But 45-zip is considered excessive.

Dishonorable Mention:

UCLA – I know the Bruins were a big dog at Utah. But they did have a three-game winning streak. So I expected a little something more than 49-3. Silly me.
