Saint Joseph’s Moves to Atlantic 10 Semifinals, Penn Clinches a Share of the Ivy League Championship, Drexel Falls in CAA Quarterfinal Round

Week of October 24 – 30, 2018

DREXEL 7 – 7 – 5 Overall, 4 – 4 – 1 CAA

Results – Lost 3 – 2 (2 OT) at College of Charleston in CAA Championship Quarterfinal

Summary – The Dragons got goals from Morgan Rees and Kiera Hennessy late in regulation to force overtime against Charleston.  Rees assisted on the Hennessy goal.  In the second extra period Drexel was victimized by a goal by Laura Ortega, her second of the game, 5:33 into the second stanza.  Dragons goal keeper Libby Baeza turned in 7 saves.

LA SALLE 8 – 8 – 1 Overall, 3 – 7 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – End of season

Summary – La Salle looks forward to the 2019 season.

PENN – 13 – 1 – 1 Overall, 5 – 0 – 1 Ivy League

ResultsWon 2 – 0 vs. Brown at Rhodes Field

Summary – The University of Pennsylvania clinched a share of the Ivy League Championship winning 2 – 0 over Brown, the first since 2010.  This Penn team has posted the best record in program history.  The Red and Blue can earn an NCAA Tournament berth with a win or draw against Princeton on Saturday.  Penn goals were scored by Sasha Stephens and Mia Shenk, both in the second half.  Kitty Qu recorded her 19th career solo shutout.  The Red and Blue has 12 clean slates.  The program record is 13.

SAINT JOSEPH’S  14 – 4 – 2 Overall, 8 – 2 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Won 2 – 0 vs. Fordham at Sweeney Field in Atlantic 10 Quarterfinals

Summary – Taylor Ryan scored in the 15th minute and Morgan Bower got the insurance goal 3 minutes into the second half that propelled Saint Joe’s past Fordham in the A10 opening round.  It was the first ever Conference Championship match hosted by Saint Joseph’s.  The Hawks travel to Dayton to meet VCU in an Atlantic 10 Championships semifinal match.  Grace Bendon had a clean slate for SJU.

TEMPLE 7 – 10 – 1 Overall, 3 – 5 – 1 AAC

Results – Lost 1 – 0 at Connecticut

Summary – The Connecticut Huskies were the beneficiaries of a Temple own goal in the 6th minute to get the win.  Owls goal keeper Morgan Basileo had 4 saves.  Her goals against average this year is 1.14.  The Cherry and White travel to Florida to meet top-seed Central Florida in the first round of the American Championships

Next Game – 11/2 at UCF in the American Championships Quarterfinals

VILLANOVA 9 – 9 – 0 Overall, 3 – 6 – 0 Big East

Results – Lost 2 – 1 vs. Butler

Summary – It was the final game of the regular season for the Wildcats.  The 9 wins were the most for the program since the 2009 season.  Kristin Barbour scored her first goal of the year.  Bri Austin led the team in scoring with 15 points.  Chloe O’Neill was second with 13 points.  Villanova had no ties in the campaign.
