PHILLY COLLEGE WOMEN’S SOCCER WEEK IN REVIEW

Four Teams Have Only One Defeat

Week of September 4 – 10, 2018

DREXEL 3 – 1 – 3 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 CAA

Results – Tied 1 – 1 at Saint Joseph’s

Summary – The Dragons experienced a 90-minute severe weather delay on Hawk Hill.  When play resumed Raenah Campbell scored, the only shot on goal for the team, off a goal kick misplay to give Drexel the lead in the 74th minute.  The Hawks answered in the 82nd minute when Paige Bergman found the back of the net.  Goal Keeper Libby Raeza recorded 9 saves.

Next Game – 9/13 at Providence

LA SALLE 4 – 1 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Tied 2 – 2 (2 OT) at Rutgers

Summary – The Explorers scored the first and last goal in the draw at Piscataway.  Jenna Soriano converted a penalty kick early.  After the Scarlet Knights took the lead in the 74th minute, Amirah Louketis put the ball in the net from 25 yards away to knot it.  La Salle goal keeper Claudia Jenkins made a career-high 9 saves.

Next Game – 9/13 vs. Fairleigh Dickinson at McCarthy Stadium

PENN – 4 – 1 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Ivy League

ResultsWon 2 – 0 vs. Delaware, Won 4 – 2 vs. Navy at the Navy Annapolis Classic

Summary – The University of Pennsylvania won both games in the Navy Classic.  With the shutout win against Delaware goal keeper Kitty Qu recorded her third clean slate of the season.  Sahsa Stephens had 2 goals over the two games, and Allie Trzaska was credited with 5 assists.  Kelsey Andrews, Jackie Bruder, Emily Sands, and Emma Loving scored goals for the Quakers.

Next Game – 9/14 vs. UMBC at Rhodes Field

SAINT JOSEPH’S  4 – 1 – 2 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Tied 1- 1 (2 OT) vs. Drexel, Won 5 – 1 vs. Bucknell both at Sweeney Field

Summary – After experiencing a 90-minute weather delay and falling behind, the Hawks got a goal from Paige Bergman in the 82nd minute to tie the game.  The Saint Joe’s offense woke up two days later beating Bucknell 5 – 1.  Hannah Racis scored twice.  Gabrielle Vagnozzi, Aleksa Peev, and Kylie D’Ambria found the back of the net.  With the win goal keeper Grace Bendon got her 23rd career win which ties her with Allison Ebling for most career victories in program history.

Next Game – 9/13 vs. Villanova at Sweeney Field

TEMPLE 3 – 4 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 AAC

Results – Lost 2- 0 at Lehigh, Lost 4 – 1 at Boston College

Summary – It was a tough week for the Owls who were defeated twice on the road.  Goal Keeper Morgan Basileo recorded 8 saves at Lehigh who scored twice within three minutes in a game played in the rain.  Kerri McGinley had the Temple goal in the game where Boston College remained unbeaten.

Next Game – 9/14 at NJIT

VILLANOVA 4 – 3 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Big East

Results – Lost 3 – 0 vs. Virginia Tech at Talen Energy Stadium

Summary – The Wildcats played the Hokies at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester.  It was supposed to be a men’s – women’s double header for Villanova, but sever weather forced postponement of the men’s contest against Penn State.  All of the Virginia Tech goals came in the second half, tow by Kelsey Irwin.  Nova goal keeper Rebecca Gartner made 6 saves.
