La Salle Records Their Fifth Shutout Of The Season, Penn Gets First Win On A Goal In The First Minute, Saint Joseph’s Shuts Out Big Ten Opponent

DREXEL 3 – 4 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 CAA

Results – Lost 2 – 1 at Monmouth

Summary – The Dragons fell victim to a game-winning goal by the Hawks Rachelle Ross with 5 seconds to play in West Long Branch, NJ.  Drexel took a lead in the 60th minute when Shaelyn McCarty put the ball into the upper part of the net, her second goal of the season.  Monmouth tied the game 8 minutes later on a score by Lexie Palladino.  The Dragons had a 16 – 10 advantage in shots, 7 on goal.  Only one got past the goal line.

Next Game – 9/14 vs. Penn at Vidas Field

LA SALLE 5 – 1 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Won 1 – 0 at Villanova

Summary – The Explorers won a city contest as Maci Bower scored the only goal of the game in the 76th minute.  Amirah Louketis got the assist, her first career assist.  It was the third goal of the season for Bower.  Goal keeper Larisa Zambelli tallied four saves recording her second consecutive clean slate and fifth of the year.

Next Game – 9/15 vs. Delaware at The Princeton Tournament

PENN – 1 – 3 – 2 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Ivy League

ResultsLost 1 – 0 vs. Bucknell; Won 1 – 0 vs. Delaware both at Rhodes Field

Summary – The Red and Blue won their first game of the season beating Delaware 1 – 0 on a goal by Erica Higa scored in the first 45 seconds.  Goal kepper Kitty Qu had four saves.  Earlier in the week Penn lost 1 – 0 when Brianna Kropinack found the back of the net in the 80th minute.  The Quakers recorded 14 shots, compared to 8 for the BIson, six came from Emily Sands.

Next Game – 9/14 at Drexel

SAINT JOSEPH’S 4 – 1 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Result – Won 1 – 0 at Ohio State

Summary – The Hawks handed the host Buckeyes their first loss of the season.  Paige Bergman tallied the game winner off a corner kick at the 22:49 mark.  Goal keeper Grace Bendon made nine saves, eight in the second half.  In the latter stanza Ohio State recorded 12 of their 16 shots.

VILLANOVA 3 – 4 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 Big East

Results – Lost 1 – 0 at Lehigh; Lost 1 – 0 vs. La Salle at the Higgins Soccer Complex

Summary – The Wildcats dropped a pair of 1 – 0 decisions over the week.  Lehigh scored off a penalty kick in the 55th minute, then La Salle’s Maci Bower converted in the 76th minute.  Goal Keeper Emily Harris recorded six saves over the week.
