Drexel Downed In CAA Women’s Soccer Final

The Drexel Dragons went into the CAA Women’s Soccer Championships as the #2 Seed.  The Dragons made it to the championship game, but fell by a 3 – 0 score to top-seeded Northeastern Huskies in Brookline, MA.  It was the first-ever appearance in the finals in Drexel program history.

Northeastern took a 1 – 0 lead into intermission when Hannah Rosenblatt put the ball past Dragons goal keeper Christiana Ogunsami in the 23rd minute.  The Huskies got goals from Nicole Gorman and Carina Deandreis to close out the scoring.

Northeastern had a 15 – 11 edge in shots, 4 – 3 on goal.  Ogunsami made one save.  Nathalie Nidetch had three saves for the Huskies.

Vanessa Kara, Madison Dunn, and Shaelyn McCarty were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Drexel got to the final defeating James Madison  2 – 0 in the semifinal round.  It was the first post-season victory for the Dragons.  Kiera Hennessy got the scoring started in the 30th minute.  McCarty added the insurance goal at 42:12. Ogunsami made 7 saves in the victory.  It was her 10th shutout of the season which ties a program single-season record for clean slates by a goal keeper.

Drexel had a 12 – 7 advantage in shots on goal.  Maggie Buxton had 10 saves for the Dukes.
