Saint Joseph’s Unbeaten Streak Continues, Drexel Tied Late, Penn Loses A Heart Breaker
Week of October 5 – 12, 2016 Games
DREXEL 8– 5 – 2 Overall, 4 – 1 – 1 CAA
Results – Won 3 – 0 vs. College of Charleston, Tied 1 – 1 vs. UNCW (2 OT) both at Vidas Field
Summary – The Dragons are settled in second place in the CAA standings. After defeating Charleston with goal keeper Christiana Ogunsami picking up her third straight shutout in a row, Drexel was in a first place tie with Northeastern. It appeared it would stay that way, but UNCW scored a goal off a scramble with less that 2 seconds to play. The match ended in a draw. Vanessa Kara, Laura Hamilton, Kylie Strong, and Shaelyn McCarty scored goals for the Dragons over the week.

LA SALLE 3 – 7 – 2 Overall, 1 – 1 – 2 Atlantic 10
Results – Tied 1 – 1 (2 OT) vs. George Washington, Lost 2 – 1 vs. Saint Joseph’s, both at McCarthy Stadium
Summary – The Explorers got early leads, but could not hold them. Danielle Marx put La Salle ahead of GW, but a goal by McKenzie Cowley in the 83rd minute tied it. Paige McDowell gave the Explorers a lead with a goal in the 53rd minute, her first of the year. City rival Saint Joe’s got the next two to get the victory, handing La Salle their first conference loss this season.

PENN – 7 – 3 – 1 Overall, 1 – 2 – 0 Ivy League
Results – Lost 1 – 0 (OT) vs. Columbia,
Summary – The University of Pennsylvania dropped an Ivy League heart breaker to Columbia when Natalie Neshat headed home a corner kick with 51 seconds left in the first overtime period. The Quakers bounced back defeating the Hornets of Delaware State getting first half goals form Emma Loving and Sam Klingelhofer. Penn outshot Delaware State 14 – 1.
Next Game – 10/15 at Dartmouth
SAINT JOSEPH’S 9 – 1 – 2 Overall, 3 – 0 – 1 Atlantic 10
Result – Won 3 – 1 at Rhode Island, Won 2 – 1 at La Salle
Summary – The Hawks come from behind in both games to win. Dakota Mills and Emily Gingrich scored goals late in the games to keep SJU unbeaten in league play. Saint Joe’s shares second place in Atlantic 10 with Saint Louis two-points behind league leading Duquesne. After the game against the Richmond, Saint Joseph’s will play Duquesne and Saint Louis.

TEMPLE 3 – 11 – 0 Overall 0 – 4 – 0 American
Results – Lost 3 – 0 at Houston, Lost 2 – 1 at SMU
Summary – The Owls fell behind in each game of their Texas trip, and now have dropped five games in a row. Kayla Cunningham scored for the Cherry and White to end the scoring. SMU held a 21 – 9 edge in shots, 11 – 2 on goal. Goal Keeper Jordan Nash made 7 saves for the Owls in the contest against the Mustangs.

VILLANOVA 3 – 10 – 0 Overall, 1 – 3 – 0 Big East
Results – Lost 2 – 0 vs. Providence at the Higgins Soccer Complex, Lost 3 – 0 at DePaul
Summary – The Wildcats suffered two shutout losses in Big East competition. Villanova had a 17 – 6 edge in shots over the Friars, but not against the league leading Blue Demons. Nova has lost four of their last five games, getting blanked in all four losses.
