Temple Rallies Late, Defeats Clemson In Rugby Pool Play

CHESTER, PA. 6/4/2016 – The Temple Owls rallied from a 12 – 0 deficit scoring 19 straight points to defeat the Clemson Tigers 19 – 12 in a Pool F match at the Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championships at Talen Energy Stadium. The Owls finish pool play with a 1 – 2 record.  The deciding try came from Michael Wellstein with 52 seconds on the clock.

The Cherry and White trailed 12 – 0 at halftime.  Temple got on the board early in the second half on a try by Dan Ponti.  Adam Gallagher got the game-tying try by Adam Gallagher with 3:26 to play.

Clemson got deep into Temple territory, but turned the ball over which gave the Owls their game-deciding opportunity.

Temple finished pool competition with losses to Dartmouth and Utah, but finished the day with the win. Competition continues Sunday for the Owls who will meet an opponent still to be determined.
