Temple Remains Unbeaten, Saint Joseph’s Gets First Win Of The Season, Villanova Loses Their First

DREXEL 0 – 5 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 CAA
Results – Lost 1 – 0 vs. #7 Washington, Lost 1- 0 vs. Iona
Summary – The Dragons are still looking for their first win of the season. Drexel dropped back to back 1 – 0 games at Vidas Field. The Dragons showed strong defensive play and got strong goal tending from Tyler Afflerbach (7 saves vs. Washington) and Jacob Jordan (8 saves against Iona). The team needs to find the back of the net.
Next Game – 9/15 vs. Penn at Vidas Field
LA SALLE 2 – 3 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10
Results – Won 1 – 0 vs. Siena at McCarthy Stadium
Summary – The Explorers got a goal from Andrew Connors in the 19th minute and made it stand for their second victory of the season. La Salle played a man down for the last 40:09 of play, but kept Siena form scoring. Goal Keeper Mike Kirk made 2 saves facing 12 shots.

PENN – 0 – 2 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Ivy League
Results – Lost 3 – 1 at Florida International
Summary – Penn had a 1 – 0 lead at halftime, but FIU stormed back to score three times and claim the victory. Jerel Blades tallied the Quakers goal. Red and Blue goal keeper Max Polkinhorne left in the 35th minute due to injury. The game at Florida Gulf Coast was cancelled due to lightening.

SAINT JOSEPH’S 1 – 4 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10
Results – Won 3 – 2 (2 OT) vs. LIU Brooklyn at Sweeney Field
Summary – The Hawks got an overtime goal from Derek MacKinnon in the 103rd minute to earn their first win of the season. MacKinnon assisted on the Temeh goal helping him earn the Soccer Six Rookie of the Week honor. Emmanuel Temeh scored in the 74th minute to send the game into the overtime sessions. Mike Stuski scored the other SJU goal. Temeh leads the team in goals (3) and points (6).

TEMPLE 4 – 0 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 AAC
Results – Won 3 – 1 vs. Rider, Won 2 – 0 vs. Yale both at the Ambler Sports Complex
Summary – The Owls remain undefeated on the season getting a pair of wins at home. Temple trailed Rider at halftime by a 1 – 0 score, but came back getting 3 second half scores. Jorge Gomez Sanchez 4 goals and an assist over the two games earning him the Philadelphia Soccer Six Player of the Week Award. Temple has given up two goals this season. The defense headed by Brendon Creed kept the opposition scoreless for the last 169 plus minutes of the week. Creed was named the Soccer Six Defensive Player of the Week. Goal Keeper Alex Cagle leads the Soccer Sox in Goals Against Average (0.37), Save Percentage at .875, and in shutouts with 3.

VILLANOVA 3 – 1 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Big East
Results – Lost 3 – 1 at Monmouth
Summary – The Wildcats suffered their first loss of the season giving up 2 second half goal at Monmouth. The defeated snapped a three-game winning streak for Villanova. Andreas Bartosinski tallied the goal for the Wildcats. Villanova had a 16 – 13 edge in shots, but Monmouth goal keeper Klenofsky made 7 saves.
