La Salle Advances While Saint Joseph’s Falls In Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Tournament

#9 La Salle 76 #8 Massachusetts 69 – The La Salle Explorers will advance to the Atlantic 10 quarterfinal round where they will meet the top seeded Wildcats of Davidson.  The Explorers got there behind guard Jordan Price who tied a La Salle tournament record scoring 28 points in the contest matching Rasual Butler and Mike Cleaves set the mark in the 2002 tournament.  Price went 6 for 16 from the floor and 14 of 16 from the free throw line, 10 in the second half when La Salle needed to hold off UMass.

Massachusetts built an early 9 point lead, but the Explorers erased the deficit and took a 31 – 30 lead into the locker room.  UMass scored the first 8 points of the second half to regain the lead.  La Salle later went on an 18 – 4 run to take a 58 – 49 lead with 6:53 to go.  The Minutemen got to within 64 – 63 with 2:05 remaining.  The Explorers got a three from Khalid Lewis, then went 9 of 10 from the free throw line over the last 1:04 to seal the win.

Steve Zack finished with 13 rebounds and 12 points to post his fourth double-double of the season.  He also added 3 blocked shots.

#7 St. Bonaventure 60 #10 Saint Joseph’s 49 – The season ends for the Saint Joseph’s Hawks as they lose in the second round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament to the Bonnies of St. Bonaventure.  It was the third win by the Bonnies over the Hawks this season.  Saint Joe’s ends the season with a record of 13 – 18.

Isaiah Miles led the Hawks with 19 points.  DeAndre’ Bembry scored 12 points while adding 6 rebounds and 3 assists.

Saint Joe’s held a 5-point lead at halftime.  However, the Bonnies opened the second half with a 14 – 6 run to take the lead at 37 – 34 on the three-pointer by Andell Cumberbatch at the 12:57 mark.  The lead would increase to 6 points which would be as close as the Hawks would get for the rest of the game.

As a team, Saint Joseph’s shot 25.5 percent overall (14-of-55), 18.8 percent from three-point range (3-of-16) and 69.2 percent from the foul line (18-of-26).

Youssou Ndoye led four Bonnies in double figures with 18 points as St. Bonaventure finished 21-of-52 from the field (40.4 percent), 2-of-14 from behind the arc (14.3 percent) and 16-of-21 from the foul line (76.2 percent).

St. Bonaventure will meet Dayton in the quarterfinal round.
