Drexel Unbeaten Streak At 8 Games, La Salle Without A Loss In The Atlantic 10, Temple Wins It’s 10th Game Of The Season

Games The Week of October 8 – 14, 2014

DREXEL DRAGONS 7 – 5 – 2 Overall, 4 – 0 –1 CAA

Results – Won 1 – 0 at Elon, Won 3 – 2 (OT)

Summary –

Drexel 1 Elon 0 – A Megan Hammaker goal from 20 yards out was the only score of the game.  The Dragons outshot the Phoenix 11 – 5.  Drexel is unbeaten in their last 7 games.  Goal Keeper Kelsie Fye has not allowed a goal in the last 639 minutes of play.

Drexel 3 William & Mary 2 (OT) – The unbeaten streak for the Dragons is now 8 games.  Drexel earned a 3 – 2 overtime win at William & Mary as Melissa Chapman scored after a free kick by Alyssa Findlay in the 99th minute.  Madison Dunn got the assist as she followed up on the free kick and fed Chapman for the game winner. The Tribe scored the tying goal with just one second left in regulation.

Dunn recorded a goal and an assist, and was named the CAA Rookie of the Week.  Lauren Stollar had the other Dragon goal.    Kelsie Fye’s 697 minute streak of not giving up a goal ended in the 59th minute.

Next Game – 10/17 vs. James Madison University at Vidas Field

 

LA SALLE EXPLORERS 7 – 4 – 2 Overall, 3 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Won 1 – 0 vs. Fordham at McCarthy Stadium

Summary –

La Salle 1 Fordham 0 – A goal by Kelsey Haycook in the 67th minute propelled the Explorers to the shutout win.  Haycook put a header over the Rams goal keeper from the edge of the box.  Danielle Marx got the assist.  La Salle outshot Fordham 14 – 2 and put 5 shots on goal.

Next Game – 10/17 at Dayton

PENN QUAKERS 5 – 4 – 2 Overall, 1 – 2 – 0 Ivy League

ResultsWon 1 – 0 vs. Columbia, Lost 2 – 1 vs. Navy both at Rhodes Field

Summary –

Penn 1 Columbia 0 – Juliana Provini once again provided the margin of victory for the University of Pennsylvania with a goal in the 39th minute.  Provini headed the ball into the goal off a right side cross from Jill Kennedy.  The Red and Blue earned its first league of the season.

Navy 2 Penn 1 – The University of Pennsylvania got the first goal of the game, but Navy answered quickly and overcame Penn for the win.  The two game winning streak for the Red and Blue came to an end.  Erin Mikolai scored the goal for the Quakers.  Navy tied it 2 minutes later then got the game winner from Lilly Kraemer in the 65th minute.

Next Game – 10/18 at Dartmouth

SAINT JOSEPH’S HAWKS 8 –7 – 0 Overall, 1 – 3 – 0 Atlantic 10

Result – Won 3 – 1 vs. Dayton,   Lost 3 – 2 to Saint Louis both at Sweeney Field

Summary –

Saint Joseph’s 3 Dayton 1 – The Hawks picked up their first Atlantic 10 win of the season.  In addition it was the team’s second win over Dayton in program history.  SJU opened the scoring on a goal by Olivia McEachern who beat the goal keeper to the left post.  In the second half Emily Gingrich scored the winning and insurance goal in the 62nd and 81st minute.

Saint Louis 3 Saint Joseph’s 2 – Emily Gingrich scored a pair of goals for the Hawks, but it wasn’t enough as the Billikens fought back for a 3 – 2 win.  Both goals by Gingrich came in the first half giving the Hawks a 2 – 1 lead at intermission.  Saint Louis scored in the 62nd minute to the game.  Michelle Schwarz netted the deciding goal at the 73:42 mark.

Next Game – 10/17 vs. Saint Bonaventure at Sweeney Field

TEMPLE OWLS 10 – 4 –1 Overall, 3 – 2 – 1 AAC

Results – Lost 1 – 0 at SMU, Won 1 – 0 at Houston

Summary –

SMU 1 Temple 0 – Rikki Clarke of SMU scored in the 20th minute for the lone goal of the game.  The Owls kept knocking on the door outshooting the Mustangs 15 – 3, 11 – 1 in the second half, but could not get the equalizer.

Temple 1 Houston 0 – With the win this Temple Owls team became the third team in program history to post double-digit wins in a season. Kayla Cunningham scored in the 25th minute to give the Cherry and White control of the contest.  Temple outshot Houston 13 – 8.  Goal Keeper Shauni Kerkhoff registered her 5th shutout of the season for the Owls.

Next Game – 10/9 at SMU

VILLANOVA WILDCATS 4 – 8 – 2 Overall, 2 – 3 – 0 Big East

Results – Lost 1 – 0 vs. St. John’s at the Higgins Soccer Complex
