The George Washington Colonials will move on the WNIT defeating the host Villanova Wildcats 77 – 66 at the Pavilion. Villanova’s season ends with the defeat in the second round of the tournament. The Wildcats posted a 23 – 9 record this season.

Villanova trailed 36 – 32 at halftime. In the second half the Wildcats closed to within 46 – 41 that the Colonials answered with a 12 – 4 run with 8:25 to play. GW guard Hannah Schaible scored 8 of her 12 points in the run. Still, the Wildcats continued to close the gap. With 1:03 to play sophomore guard Katherine Coyer made a layup to get Villanova to within 67 – 62. George Washington closed the game making 9 of 10 free throws.

The Colonials were able to keep Villanova away by going to the boards. On the offensive glass GW held a 24 – 10 advantage, and a 53 – 31 edge overall.

Katherine Coyer led the Wildcats with 15 points. Senior Devon Kane ended her collegiate career with 13 points and 6 assists. Junior forward Emily Leer was the other Villanova player in double figures posting 11 points. Caroline Coyer scored 9 points and had a team-high 6 rebounds.

The Blue and White are now 7 – 7 in WNIT competition. Kane finished the season scoring in double figures in 24 of the 32 Wildcat games this season, and 15 in her last 16 games. For her career Kane scored 1,030 points and had 362 assists which ranks 12th in school history.
