Saint Joseph’s Wins A Thriller In Atlantic 10 Quarterfinal Round

A10 MBB 2014The Saint Joseph’s Hawks won a battle on a step-back three by senior guard Langston Galloway with 19 seconds to play, and advance with a 70 – 67 in over the Dayton Flyers in the Atlantic 10 quarterfinals at the Barclays Center.  Galloway scored 31 points to lead Saint Joe’s who will be in the Atlantic 10 semifinals for the first time since 2011.

This was a close game throughout that featured 16 lead changes.  The largest lead was six-points.  The Hawks trailed 67 – 66  before Galloway’s game winner.  After a timeout Dayton guard Devin Oliver put up a three-point attempt that bounced off the backboard and into the hands of Saint Joe’s freshman forward DeAndre’ Bembry who was fouled.  Bembry converted one of two free throws.  Dayton could not get a shot off before the buzzer sounded.

Galloway made 6 of 11 three-point shots.  In the first half the senior scored 20 of the Hawks’ 35 points.  Bembry scored 15 points in the contest.  Senior forward Ronald Roberts scored 11 points, and fellow senior Halil Kanacevic had 9 points and 12 rebounds.

Dysahwn Pierre led the Flyers with 11 points, while Matt Kavanaugh and Jordan Sibert added 10 points each.

Saint Joseph’s (22 – 9) needed the win to strengthen their tournament resume, and got it.  The Hawks move on to face the #9 seed St. Bonaventure who upset top-seeded Saint Louis on a buzzer-beater in the first game of the session.  It was the first win of the conference tournament season for a Philadelphia school.
