Drexel Advances In CAA Women’s Basketball Tournament

CAA WBB 2014Drexel sophomore guard Meghan Creighton scored a career-high tying 20 points to lead the Dragons to a 60 – 55 win over the Hofstra Pride in the quarterfinal round of the CAA Women’s Tournament at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, MD.  The Dragons avenged two losses to Hofstra this season.

In a fast start Drexel scored the first 10 points of the game, stretched it to an 18 – 3 lead, and never looked back.  Hofstra made a comeback to get to within 23 – 19 at halftime.  With the game tied at 34 Drexel regained the lead on a basket by Jamila Thompson.  That was followed by an 11 – 0 Dragon run started by a three-pointer by senior guard Fiona Flanagan, and culminated with a basket from beyond the arc by Creighton with 7:01 to play.  The Pride showed pride by trying to get back into the game, but the Dragons kept the lead at the foul line.  Creighton scored the last seven points for Drexel all at the stripe in the last 1:05 of the game.  As a team the Dragons made 14 of 17 free throws in the second half.

Tory Thierolf contributed 9 points for the Dragons who had nine of ten players score.  Asia Jackson led the Pride with 15 points.  Alexis Carter scored 13 points.

Drexel (15 – 15) meets the #1 seed Dukes of James Madison in the semifinal round.
