South Florida Eliminates Temple In AAC Women’s Basketball Tournament

AAC WBBThe Temple Owls earned the 6th seed in the American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball tournament, but were eliminated in the quarterfinal round by #3 South Florida 72 – 44 at the Mohegan Sun Arena.  The Owls closed the season with a 14 – 16 record while the Bulls move on to a semifinal match against Louisville.

The game was close early, but a 15 – 2 run to halftime gave South Florida a 36 – 19 lead at halftime.  The Cherry and White shot a dismal 19% from the field (9 for 27) while the bulls converted 41% (11 of 27) and made all 12 free throws.  The USF lead grew to as many as 31 points.  For the game Temple shot 24% and missed all 14 three-point tries.

Freshman guard Feyonda Fitzgerald was the only Temple player to score in double figures.  She finished the game with 20 points.  This game marked the end of the collegiate playing career for Natasha Thames and Shi-Heria Shipp.  Each player registered 4 points.  Inga Orekhova scored a game-high 22 points for the Bulls.
