The Drexel Dragons Win First CAA Game of the Season 67 – 38 Over the Hofstra Pride
PHILADELHIA, PA. 1/11/2026 –
Coming into this game Drexel dropped the first two games in their initial CAA Weekend. Behind a complete team effort and another twenty-point game by forward Deja Evans the Dragons get their initial conference win of the season 67 – 38 against the Hofstra Pride at the DAC.
It was important for Drexel to bounce back after losses at Campbell and Stony Brook. And they did in a big way. The team made 50.9% from the field (27 of 53), 8 of 12 from beyond the arc, and forced 5 turnovers by steals. All eleven Dragons who played scored at least 2 points. Hofstra made to 28.1% shooting and twice were held to single digit scoring in a quarter in tying their lowest point total this season.
“I thought today was an example of us really keeping it going,” said Drexel Coach Amy Mallon. “Knowing what we were, what are strengths were, how we were scoring, and how we were getting the looks. It was better all around for us from start to finish.”
“We came back ready to show what we are capable of doing,”
The Dragons got another big performance from Evans who scored a season-high tying 20 points making 8 of 10 from the field, 4 of 6 foul shots, took down 7 rebounds, and a blocked shot. Her previous season-best was in her previous game at Stony Brook.
“I think it’s just all the confidence that my coaches and my teammates instill in me,” said Evans. “And playing defense. We work on playing defense and that creates our options.”
The Start of the Halves
The game started well for Drexel who ran out to a 13 – 4 lead in the first quarter. That edge would spread to as many as 22 points in the second quarter. The Dragons squashed all hopes the Pride had for a comeback by scoring the first 13 points of the second half. The largest lead of the game was 31 points late in the fourth quarter.
“That’s crucial for us. In CAA play it’s live or die,” Mallon said. “Knowing you have to set the tone at the beginning because e very team is capable. I definitely didn’t want this to be a possession game tonight. I was glad we put ourselves in not to be.”
What the Numbers Say
In addition to Evans Amaris Baker scored in double figures getting 14 points. Molly Rullo added 7 points. Grace O’Neill dished out 6 assists. Rullo and Baker had 2 steals each. The Dragons won the Points in the Paint stat by 40 – 18.
Sandra Magolico led Hofstra with 10 points and 11 rebounds. It is her second double-double of the season.
Up Next
Drexel (8 – 6, 1 – 2) goes on the road next weekend going to Charleston and UNCW. The Dragons go into the games with a league victory, something of great meaning to the team.
“Very exciting,” said Evans. “We need to stay on the stand.”
