Natasha Cloud led the Hawks to their first outright Big Five championship since the 2000-01 season. Cloud averaged 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 7.5 assists for the week.  Against Penn Cloud scored 12 points, took down 9 rebounds, and handed out 6 assists.  In the title clinching game at La Salle Cloud scored 14 points and had 9 rebounds and 9 assists.

Sarah Curran scored a career-high 22 points at William & Mary making 11 of 14 field goal attempts.  In the win at Delaware Curran led the team in scoring with 19 points.

Week of January 13 – January 19, 2014 Games

LA SALLE 9 – 9 Overall, 4 – 2 Atlantic 10, 0 – 4 Big Five

Results –   Lost 58 – 35 at Saint Bonaventure, Lost 64 – 52 vs. Saint Joseph’s at the Gola Arena

Summary –

Saint Bonaventure 58 La Salle 35 – Michaya Owens scored a team-high 9 points for the Explorers  who shot 11 – 54 (20.4%).  Saint Bonaventure held a 41 – 29 rebounding advantage, and got a game-high 27 points from Katie Healey.

Saint Joseph’s 64 La Salle 52 – The Hawks led all the way, but it was a tight game.  In the end a late Hawk run put the game out of reach.  Alicia Cropper scored a team-high 17 points  Leeza Burdgess recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.  La Salle played most of the game without point guard Khristin Lee who injured an ankle in a fall that required hospitalization.

PENN 8 – 5 Overall, 0 – 1 Ivy League, 1 – 2 Big Five

Results – Lost 55 – 54 at Villanova, Lost 60 – 52 at Saint Joseph’s

SAINT JOSEPH’S 14 – 4 Overall, 3 – 2 Atlantic 10, 4 – 0 Big Five

Results – Won 60 – 52  vs. Penn at the Hagan Arena, Won 64 – 52 at La Salle

Saint Joseph’s 64 La Salle 52 – The Hawks stand as champions of the women’s Big Five completing a city series sweep against La Salle.  The title was the first for the Hawks since the 2000-01 season.  To close out the game the Hawks made 9 of 10 from the free throw line.  Natasha Cloud scored 14 points and added 9 rebounds and 9 assists.  Sarah Fairbanks scored a team-high 16 points while pulling down 8 rebounds.

TEMPLE 10 – 7   Overall, 4 – 3 AAC, 1 – 2 Big Five

Results – Won 80 – 66 vs. SMU at McGonigle Hall, Won 58 – 47 at Cincinnati

Summary –

Temple 80 SMU 66 – The Owls got 16 points each from Feyonda Fitzgerald and Tyonna Williams.  Temple out-rebounded SMU 40 – 30 in the contest.  Natasha Thames had a game-high 12 rebounds.

Temple 58 Cincinnati 47 – A 19 – 0 run at the beginning of the second half along with 61% shooting in the stanza led the Owls to a cone from behind victory.  Rateska Brown led the Cherry and White in scoring with 17 points.

Next Games – 1/22 vs. Penn , 1/25  vs. Rutgers both at McGonigle Hall

VILLANOVA 13 – 5 Overall, 3 – 4 Big East, 2 – 1 Big Five

Results – Won 55 – 54 vs. Penn, Lost 91 – 65 at DePaul

DePaul 91 Villanova 65 – The Wildcats got 17 points from Devon Kane and 16 points from Caroline Coyer, but shot 38.6% on a loss at DePaul.  Villanova trailed by 16 at halftime and would come no closer.

Next Games – 1/22 vs. St. John’s, 1/25 vs. Xavier at the Pavilion

DREXEL 6 – 8 Overall, 1 – 0 CAA

Results – Won 89 – 49 at William & Mary, Won 61 – 52 at Delaware

Summary –

Drexel 89 William & Mary 49 – The Dragons blitzed the Tribe 54 – 17 in the second half to ease to the win.  Abby Reddick recorded a triple-double in front of family a friends.  The Roanoke, VA. native recorded 12 points, 10 rebounds, and a career-high 10 assists.  Sarah Curran scored a career-high 22 points making 11 of 14 from the floor.

Drexel 61 Delaware 52 – The Dragons ended the Blue Hens 20-game CAA home winning streak winning in Newark, DE.  Sarah Curran led Drexel with 19 points while Rachel Pearson added 12 points.  Meghan Creighton scored 11 points, 10 came in the last 9:22 of the game.

Next Games – 1/23 at James Madison, 1/26 vs. Northeastern at the DAC
