Philly College NCAA Women’s Outdoor Track & Field National Championship Qualifiers

Four Individual Athletes and Two Relay Teams Heading to Eugene

The NCAA Eastern Regional Track and Field meet concluded with the women’s events for who will go to the National Championship meet in June. For the Philly schools there are four women’s athletes that qualified. Three are from Penn and both the Quakers 4×100 and 4×400 Relay teams advanced. It was quite a day for the Red and Blue.

Penn Writes History

In addition to the Relay teams two runners set school records in their event. Isabella Whittaker placed second in her 400m heat to automatically qualify for the trip to Oregon. She ran a 50.82 time which sets a program record. In the 5000m run Lily Murphy qualified on time for the finals covering the distance in 15:51.27 setting a school record. Two nights earlier Murphy placed 8th with a time of 33:04.29 to qualify in the 10,00m run. The 4x100m Relay team of; Caia Gelli, Fore Abinusawa, Isabella Whittaker, and Christi Nwachuku ran their season-best time of 43.74. The team advances on time as they placed ninth overall, fifth in their heat.

Olivia Morganti qualified for the finals in the 3000m Steeple Chase placing 11th with a time of 10:07.44. She finished third in her heat to be an automatic qualifier.

The 4x400m Relay team finished second in their heat and will move on as an automatic qualifier. The team placed 10th overall running a time of 3:29.93. The quartet of Aliya Garozzo, Nwachuku, Jocelyn Niemiec, and Whittaker carried the baton for the Red and Blue.

Villanova In the Field

Roschell Clayton will be in the High Jump event. She placed fifth overall with a height of 1.84m. All of the top five finishers cleared the bar at that height. Placement was based on misses at the winning jump mark. Clayton missed her first attempt, but cleared the second time.

The National Championship meet will be on June 6 – 8 at the University of Oregon.
