Quite a Day for Villanova at the Penn Relays

The Men’s 4 x Mile Team Sets a Collegiate Record, And Other Athletes Experience Success

A big day for the Wildcats on Saturday at the Penn Relays. On the track the Men’s 4 x Mile team would set a collegiate record. The story is in an earlier post on this site.

Many Wildcats had a big day on the final day of competition on the track and in the field.

In the women’s High Jump Championship of America Roschell Clayton won the event with a height of 1.83m. Fellow Nova jumper Malaika Cunningham placed 7th going over the bar at 1.65m.

In other field events Adria Retter earned a 3rd place finish in the Women’s Discus Championship with a throw of 51.43m on her sixth and final throw of the competition. Nikolas Coffey placed 9th in the Men’s Javelin throwing a distance of 57.28m on his third attempt.

On the track the men’s team looked for a third Championship Wheel in the 4 x 800 Relay. The Wildcats fell short finishing 5th recording a time of 7:17.28.

In one of the last events of the Relay Carnival Villanova got third place in the Men’s 4 x 400 College division race. The time 3:11.43 run by Nicholas Mollica, James Milgie, Jakob Kunzer, and Luke Ratowitz. Also in that race the rival St. Joe’s Hawks competed placing 7th with a time of 3:14.21. The Hawks also took a third place finish in the Men’s 4 x 800 Relay College Division in 7:31.28.

The Women’s 4 x 400 Relay team did get a victory in the Eastern Division race running a time of 3:44.63. The Wildcats and the rival Hawks were dueling going first and second for most of the race. SJU turned in a time of 3:55.0. For Villanova the winning combination was Myonica Jackson, Alex Stasichin, Micah Trusty, and Madison Martinez. Trusty and Martinez put the race away with best splits of 54.34 and 55.91 in their individual leg of the race.
