La Salle Downed by Saint Louis in Atlantic 10 Women’s Soccer Final

#21 Saint Louis Wins Their Sixth Consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship

November 5, 2023 –

The Saint Louis Billikens are on quite a roll. They won the Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship again, and are on a 10-game streak where they have not allowed a goal. The La Salle Explorers came into the title game riding an 11-game unbeaten streak. Saint Louis’ streak continues by virtue of their 3 – 0 victory on their home pitch.

The league had their top seeded teams playing in the final. Prior to the Billikens streak of championships it was the Explorers who claimed the crown. Both teams were on a hot streak.

Saint Louis got the scoring going at the 13:03 mark on a goal by forward Caroline Kelly. She put home a rebound off a shot by forward Emily Gaebe that hit the far post and deflected right to Kelly. Gaebe and Kelly traded places nearly 15 minutes later. Gaebe got the goal with a right footer from the center. Kelly ended the scoring with a right footer from the bottom right of the goal in the 57th minute.

La Salle got off 14 shots, 6 on goal led by forward Haley Gschrey who had 4 and 2 that required a save. Saint Louis took 21 shots and 11 on goal. Explorers goal keeper Michela Auguadro was quite busy making 8 saves, one off a penalty kick.

La Salle finishes the season with a 12 – 5 – 3 record. Saint Louis, an automatic qualifier, awaits their destination in the NCAA Tournament from the selection committee.

Representing the Explorers on the All-Championship team are Gschrey and midfielder Emily Banashefski.
