Noteworthy: The Wildcats offense got going in the second quarter scoring touchdowns on the first two possessions of the second fifteen minutes en route to a 17 – 0 lead. Villanova used their staple, the running game rushing for 365 yards. The Cats ran the ball 49 times and passed 12. Connor Watkins is showing the ability to be a big play quarterback. He had completions of 62 and 48 yards to Jaaron Hayek and a 60-yard scoring toss to Dez Boykin.

What the Numbers Say: Running back DeeWill Barlee ran for 177 yards and TD Ayo-Durojaiye had 107, the first time he topped 100-yards in his career. Each back crossed the goal line once. Jaaron Hayek caught 4 passes for 120 yards. The defense intercepted 2 passes. Tyrell Mims and Jake Green had the picks.

Temple 30 Lafayette 14

Noteworthy: Lafayette did not go away, but the Temple defense did not give up many yards or points. The Owls got the offense going in the second quarter when Coach Stan Drayton made the change at quarterback inserting true freshman E.J. Warner into the game. He led the Cherry and White to a touchdown on his first drive of 83 yards over 12 plays. The game turned late in the second quarter. After Temple got the lead after the Warner-led scoring drive, the Owls De’Von Fox blocked the ensuing punt setting up the offense deep in Leopards territory. Temple scored a touchdown and took a 21 – 7 lead into intermission. In three consecutive possessions the Owls got that advantage with; a touchdown, a blocked punt, and a touchdown.

What the Numbers Say: The Owls defense surrendered just 110 yards (27 rushing and 83 passing). Temple’s defensive line sacked the Lafayette quarterbacks 8 times for a loss of 38 yards. Special teams in the form of Fox blocked 3 punts. The last resulted in a safety. There were firsts for Temple players. In the game Warner threw his first collegiate touchdown pass. Ian Stewart, Jordan Smith, and Darvon Hubbard scored their first career touchdowns. The Cherry and White turned the ball over 3 times on fumbles.
