Villanova Advances to the Big East Tournament Semifinal Round, Drexel Going to the CAA Tournament, Saint Joseph’s Falls in A10 Quarterfinal Round

The Villanova Wildcats did not know their post-season fate until they defeated Seton Hall on the road 1 – 0. The win qualified the Wildcats for the Big East Tournament as the #5 seed. Villanova had to travel to Omaha to meet the #4 Creighton Blue Jays in the first round. The Wildcats scored twice in the last 15 minutes to earn a 2 – 1 win. The goals were scored by Awujo Akinjide and Luke Pompliano, his in the 84th minute. The assist went to Lyam MacKinnon. Next up is a semifinal round game at #1 seed Georgetown. Coach Tom Carlin got win number 115, the most in program history. The Drexel Dragons clinched a berth in the league tournament with a 2 – 1 (2 OT) win over Delaware in the final game of the regular season. The golden goal was score by Chris Donovan off a header in the 102nd minute to cap the come from behind victory. It is be the second consecutive year that the Dragons are going to the post-season. The opponent is host and top-seed Hofstra. The Saint Joseph’s Hawks earned the #3 seed in the Atlantic 10 Tournament, and a home game. But the result was a 2 – 1 loss to the Duquesne Dukes who got goals in the 85th and 88th minute. Saint Joe’s led on a goal by Matias Mancini just five minutes earlier. The University of Pennsylvania Quakers lost 1 – 0 to Princeton who clinched the Ivy League Championship. The league does not have a postseason tournament. It was the 8th one-goal game of the season for the Red and Blue. Penn has one game remaining, next week at Harvard. The Temple Owls ended the season dropping a 3 – 1 decision to USF in Florida. Andres Charles-Barrera scored his first goal of the season for the Owls.

DREXEL 8 – 7 – 1 Overall, 4 – 3 – 1 CAA

Results – Won 2 – 1 (2 OT) vs. Delaware

Summary – Kyle Tucker scored the other goal against Delaware. Daniel Nessler assisted on both goals by the Dragons. Donovan has a team-best 12 goals this season. The Dragons are the #4 seed.

Next Game – November 11 vs. #1 Seed Hofstra in CAA Semifinals at Long Island

LA SALLE 6 – 10 – 0 Overall, 2 – 6 – 0 Atlantic 10

Summary –

PENN – 7 – 5 – 3 Overall, 1 – 3 – 2 Ivy League      

Results– Lost 1 – 0 vs. Princeton

Summary – Penn goalie Dane Jacomen made 5 saves giving him 47 saves for the season.  The Red and Blue lost on a goal by Walker Gillespie in the 85th minute. The Quakers have not defeated the Tigers since 2013.

Next Game – November 11 at Harvard

SAINT JOSEPH’S  8 – 9 – 2 Overall, 5 – 2 – 1 Atlantic 10

Results – Lost 2 – 1 vs. Duquesne in Atlantic 10 Quarterfinal Round

Summary – The Hawks outshot the Dukes by a 19 – 8 margin, but only lead 6 – 5 in shots on goal. Mancini scored his first goal. The Duquesne goals were scoffed by Tom Tzabari and Jaime Borjas.

Next Game – 2022 Season Opener

TEMPLE 2 – 12 – 2 Overall, 0 – 10 – 0 AAC

Results – Lost 3 – 1 at USF

Summary – Mike Eijgendaal got the assist on the Charles-Barrera goal giving him 6 points for the season, second on the team. The Cherry and White did not get a conference win this season.

Next Game – 2022 Season Opener

VILLANOVA 11– 6 – 1 Overall, 5 – 4 – 1 Big East

Results – Won 1 – 0 at Seton Hall, Won 2 – 1 at #4 Creighton in Big East Quarterfinals

Summary – A goal by Anthony Cousins, Jr. in the 87th minute sent Villanova to the Big East tournament.

Next Game – November 11 at #1 Seed Georgetown in Big East Semifinals
