#20 Saint Joseph’s Defeats Drexel in Philly Field Hockey

A Seven-Point Game by Van Tilburg In Win

Hawks junior Back Freke Van Tilburg posted a season-high 3 goals and an assist for a 7-point game to lead Saint Joseph’s to a 7 – 2 win over the Drexel Dragons at Ellen Ryan Field. Van Tilburg leads Saint Joe’s (2 – 1) in scoring with 4 goals and 2 assists for 10 points this season.

The visiting Dragons (0 – 3) took the lead in the first quarter on a goal by midfielder Avery Powell 2:42 into the game. The advantage held into the second quarter. Then the Hawks scored three times in the space of less than three minutes to take a 3 – 1 lead at intermission. Midfielder Aiden Drabick, Van Tilburg, and midfielder Sol Borensztein hit the back of the cage in that stretch. Van Tilburg recorded the assist on the third goal.

Saint Joe’s continued the run when forward Anna Miller scored on a rebound at 35:51. Drexel answered late in the third quarter when back Amber Brouwer put the ball past the line to cut the gap to 4 – 2.

SJU put the game away getting the next three scores. Forward Nika Hansen got the fifth, then Van Tilburg, who is from the Netherlands, got back to back goals to end the scoring and record sixth consecutive win for the Hawks over the Dragons.

Saint Joseph’s outshot Drexel by a 23 – 6 margin and had a 12 – 5 edge in penalty corners.

Saint Joe’s hosts #16 Penn State on Sunday while Drexel seeks its first win of the season the same day as La Salle comes for a visit to Vidas Field.
