Day One Recap – Philly Schools in NCAA Women’s Outdoor East Preliminaries Track & Field Meet

None of the Local School Athletes Advance in Day One

May 27, 2021 –

It was a tough day for the Villanova, Penn, and La Salle athletes in Day One of the Women’s Eastern Preliminaries. No one was able to advance in the competition. Let’s take a look at the summary of today’s events.

Javelin

Villanova thrower Taryn Ashby finished 28th in the event with a throw of 46.23m. The top twelve advance to the national meet in Eugene, Oregon. The top qualifier was Kaylee Carter of Auburn who had a throw of 56.01m.

Long Jump

Penn long jumper Camille Dickson had a leap of 6.12m to place 20th. The longest jump was by Claire Bryant of Florida with a distance of 6.64m. The top twelve move on the nationals.

Pole Vault

Ashley Preston of Villanova placed 35th vaulting 3.92m. The top distance of the day was 4.27m. Kayla Smith of Georgia and Lisa Gunnarsson from LSU missed the fewest times to tie for the top spot.

400 Meter Hurdles

Philadelphia schools had 2 hurdlers go to the start line in different heats. Danielle Burns from Villanova and Haley Rizek of Penn were in the blocks. Burns ran a 1:00.03, her best of the season, to rank 36th. Rizek finished two places behind with a time of 1:00.43. The top 24 advanced to the next round with Andrenette Knight of Virginia turning in the best time of 55.90.

Women’s 10000 Meter Run

El Mancini competed in the distance run for La Salle. She turned in a time of 35:13.93 to finish 31st. The top twelve would move on the the next meet in Eugene. Maercy Chelangat of Alabama ran the best time covering the distance in 33:06.83.

Day Two for the Men’s Meet is tomorrow.
