The Penn Ten at the NCAA East Region Preliminaries

The Quakers Send Ten Athletes to Florida; Five to the Men’s Five to the Women’s Competition

The University of Pennsylvania has ten athletes competing at the NCAA East Regional Preliminary Outdoor Track & Field Meet in Florida. Five from the men’s team and five from the women’s team will compete. For the men all will be on the track in three individual events. The women’s team sends two runners and three in field events.

The Quakers have two runners in the men’s 5000 meter run as Ryan Renken and Noah Carey qualified. Renken registered a time of 13:52.78 and Carey ran a 13:58.60. Both runners set their qualifying times at the Penn Challenge in March. The event will have two heats on Friday with the top five from each heat plus the next two best times to participate in the NCAA Championships. Both athletes are in the second heat.

Anthony Russo will run in the 10000 meters. He won the ‘Philly Mets’ meet in April with a time of 28:57.20, and will be ranked 15th in the field. The event runs at 9:10 pm on Wednesday. The top 12 of the 48 runners will qualify for the national championships in Eugene, Oregon June 9 – 12.

Michael Keehan and William Hare compete in the 3000 meter Steeplechase. The duo finished one-two at the ‘Philly Mets’ to earn a spot in the preliminaries. Keehan ran a time of 8:48.54 while Hare covered the distance in 8:51.45. The Steeplechase will be run in three heats on Friday. The top three in each heat plus the next three best times advance. Keehan is in the first heat, Hare in the third.

Isabella Whitaker qualified for the 400 meters running a 52.50 at the Penn Twilight meet. She is ranked 13th of 48 runners in the event.

Haley Rizek ran a time of 59.68 in the ‘Philly Mets’ to qualify for the 400 meter Hurdles.

Both the 400 meters and the 400 meter Hurdles first round will be run on Thursday. Six heats will start the competition in each event. The top three from each heat plus the next best times will run in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

In field events Camille Dickson gets things started for the Red and Blue in the Long Jump. She holds the program record jump of 6.24 meters. Dickson has yet to lose a meet this season. The top 12 go to Eugene for the nationals.

Claire Moreau in the High Jump cleared a height of 1.75 meters to be in the field. The qualifying leap came at TCNJ on May 13. Moreau is in the first flight.

Tamara Grahovac reached the preliminaries with a Triple Jump leap of 12.90 meters at the Penn Twilight meet. The top 12 distances qualify for the NCAA Championships at the University of Oregon.
