Drexel Wins the CAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship

The Dragons Defeat the Hofstra Pride 15 – 11 to Take the Crown

The Drexel Dragons are the CAA Men’s Lacrosse champions! Drexel won the title with a 15 – 11 win over Hofstra in Hempstead, NY and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament. Attackman Reid Bowering led the Dragons to the title scoring 5 goals in the game. He was named the championship’s Most Outstanding Player for his effort.

Bowering got the Dragons going scoring the first goal of the game in just under two minutes into the contest. He would score twice more within the opening 9 minutes to put his team in front 5 -1. Fellow attackman Aidan Coll scored two more as Drexel opened an 8 – 1 lead after one quarter. That lead would grow to 10 – 2 at halftime. Hofstra won the third quarter 5 – 2. The Pride cut the deficit to four goals in the fourth quarter, then at the 1:13 mark James Philbin scored to pull Hofstra to within 14 – 11. Coll scored at the 25 second mark for the final margin of victory.

Drexel had a 44 – 32 edge in shots. But on goal the advantage was 24 – 22. Dragons goal keeper Ross Blumenthal saved 11 shots.

Coll netted 3 goals for Drexel. In addition midfielder Jack Mulcahy and Luke Tomak had two goals each.

Ryan Sheridan scored a team-high 3 goals. Three Pride players scored two goals led by attackman Ryan Tierney who also added 2 assists, Justin Lynskey and Sam Lufti.

Blumenthal, attackman Sean Donnelly and defender Sean Quinn were named to the All-Tournament team representing the Dragons.

Drexel will learn their seeding in Sunday night.

On Sunday afternoon the Dragons women’s lacrosse team plays for the CAA title. They hope to duplicate what the men’s and women’s basketball teams did in conference in March.
