Penn Takes the Field in Women’s Lacrosse

Downs La Salle 16 – 11 on Senior Day

The women’s lacrosse team for the University of Pennsylvania got a chance to play a game and made the most of it defeating cross-town neighbor La Salle 16 – 11 on Senior Day at Franklin Field. The Explorers played their 13th game of the season. For Penn their first game since March 2020

During the game Quakers senior Zoe Belodeau scored her 100th career goal. In her final performance Belodeau posted a game-high 5 goals and an assist. Keenan Moon also scored 6 points on 4 goals and 2 assists. Six Quakers put the ball in the net.

Penn did no trail, but it was a close contest throughout. After the Red and Blue took a 4 – 1 lead at the 20:17 mark of the first half, the Blue and Gold would fight back and make this a one goal differential four different times. The last time with 13:08 on the clock when Gabby Burton scored to make the score 12 – 11. Penn would close out the game the game getting the next four goals while keeping La Salle scoreless.

Annina Iacobucci and Emily Johnston each put four goals on the board. Johnston registered the lone assist for the Explorers. Iacobucci leads the team in goals this season with 32, Johnston is second getting 27. They will complete the season this weekend hosting Duquesne, and will honor their seniors.

Penn had the edge in draw controls by a 17 – 12 margin. La Salle took 7 free-position shots compared to 4 by the Quakers.

On this day the Red and Blue played a game, got a win, and honored eight seniors. Quite a day at Franklin Field.
