The American Athletic Conference announced its preseason picks in a release today. Houston was tabbed as the preseason favorite with 9 first place votes and 99 overall points. Memphis was ranked second with 2 first place votes and 90 total.
The Temple Owls were picked for 10th place in the league.
Following Houston and Memphis were; SMU, Cincinnati, USF, Tulsa, Wichita State, UCF, East Carolina, then Temple and Tulane.
Caleb Mills of Houston was selected as the Preseason Player of the Year. Moussa Cisse of Memphis was named the Preseason Rookie of the Year.
The Preseason First Team selections were; Keith Williams G, Cincinnati Jayden Gardner F, East Carolina, Caleb Mills, G Houston, Kendric Davis G, SMU, and Brandon Rachal F, Tulsa.
The Second Team was comprised of; Chris Vogt C, Cincinnati, D.J. Jeffries F Memphis, Landers Nolley II G, Memphis, Alexis Yetna F, USF, and Tyson Jolly G, SMU.
Temple will be led by second year Coach Aaron McKie. Leaders on the team are De’Vondre Perry and J.P. Moorman II. Jake Forrester is the leading returning scorer from last year’s squad who lost four of its top five scorers.
