Penn Adds Guard Depth to Women’s Basketball Roster

August 23. 2020 –

The University of Pennsylvania added guard Nikola (Niki) Kovacikova to the women’s basketball roster. Kovacikova is a transfer from Georgetown and will have two years of eligibility at Penn.

“Niki is an extremely tough player and phenomenal teammate who gives us a lot of flexibility at the guard position,” said Penn Coach Mike McLaughlin. “With the high level of experience she has, both at the collegiate level and internationally, Niki brings the maturity and leadership skills to make an immediate impact on our program.”

Kovacikova was the third leading scorer for the Hoyas for two years. This past season she averaged 7.9 points per game and 3.2 rebounds. Kovacikova posted a double-double scoring 20 points and pulling down 12 rebounds against Seton Hall in late January. She handed out 64 assists over the year.

The Quakers lost starting guards Kendall Grasela and Phoebe Sterba to graduation. Kayla Padilla returns after an All-Big Five and Ivy League first team honors in her freshman season. Padilla won the Ivy Freshman of the Year award. Center Eleah Parker returns for her senior season.

Katie Kinum, Michae Jones, and Mia Lakstigala are experienced guards for the Red and Blue. Kovacikova will add depth and experience at the position.
