Temple Wins 10th Game Of the Season, Jorge Gomez-Sanchez Scores City-Best 13th Goal

DREXEL 2 – 13 – 1 Overall, 1 – 6 – 0 CAA
Results – Lost 3 – 2 at Loyola, MD, Lost 3 – 0 vs. William & Mary at Vidas Field
Summary – The Dragons got multiple goals in a game for the second time this season getting goals from Erik Alexandersson and Tristan Thompson in a non-league contest in Maryland. Tyler Afflerbach made 7 saves. But later Drexel was shutout in a league contest against William & Mary. The Tribe outshot the Dragons by a 21 – 11 margin. With the loss Drexel was eliminated from getting to the post-season.

LA SALLE 5 – 10 – 2 Overall, 1 – 5 – 1 Atlantic 10
Results – Lost 2 – 1 at Massachusetts, Lost 2 – 1 (OT) vs. Rhode Island at McCarthy Stadium
Summary – The Explorers dropped a pair of 2 – 1 decisions in two physical games over the week. The teams racked up a total of 70 fouls over the two games. The deciding goals came in the 2nd half and in overtime.
Next Game – 10/31 vs. Saint Joseph’s at McCarthy Stadium
PENN – 2 – 8 – 2 Overall, 1 – 2 – 1 Ivy League
Results – Tied 1 – 1 (2OT) vs. Yale at Rhodes Field
Summary – In their lone game of the week Penn earned a draw when freshman forward Jerel Blades scored three minutes after Yale took the lead. For his effort Blades was named the Philadelphia Soccer Six Rookie of the Week.

SAINT JOSEPH’S 3 – 10 – 2 Overall, 1 – 3 – 1 Atlantic 10
Results – Lost 3 – 0 at Davidson
Summary – The Wildcats scored twice in the first half to take control. The Hawks were shutout for the 8th time this season.
Next Game – 10/28 at Dayton, the make- up date from the originally scheduled October 10th game that was postponed due to travel issues.
TEMPLE 10 – 5 – 2 Overall, 2 – 5 – 0 AAC
Results – Lost 2 – 0 vs. UConn, Won 3 – 1 vs. Cincinnati both at the Ambler Sports Complex

Summary – After losing on the road the Owls stormed back to get a come from behind win against the Bearcats. The Temple win was the 10th of the season, their sixth under Coach David MacWilliams and third in the last four seasons. All goals in the home game were scored in the first half. Jorge Gomez Sanchez netted the game winner in the 39th minute. It was his 13th goal of the season which puts him at the top of city in goals scored. Gomez Sanchez was named the Philadelphia Soccer Six Player of the Week. Carlos Moros Gracia scored against Cincinnati on a penalty kick. His solid play on the back line earned Moros Gracia the Soccer Six Defensive Player of the Week.

VILLANOVA 7 – 7 – 0 Overall, 2 – 4 – 0 Big East
Results – Lost 5 – 1 at Creighton
Summary – The Wildcats scored first against the nation’s consensus #1 team. The lead lasted 1:11 as the Blue Jays went on to a 4 – 1 halftime lead behind their power offense. Villanova was outshot by a 39 – 10 margin, the most shots posted by Creighton in a game at Morris Stadium (the Blue Jays home turf).
