Temple Gets First American Win Of The Season, La Salle Gets Conference and City Win, Penn Breaks 5 Game Scoreless Streak
Games The Week of October 7 – 13, 2015
DREXEL 7 – 7 – 0 Overall, 1 – 4 – 0 CAA
Results – Lost 1 – 0 at Delaware
Summary – In a game where the Dragons would have an edge in shots, 11 – 9, it was the Blue Hens who got the goal in the 58th minute to come away with the win. Drexel had a 5 – 3 edge in shots on goal. Dragons goal keeper Kelsie Fye made 3 saves in the losing effort. The game start was delayed by an hour due to bad weather conditions.

LA SALLE 5 – 6 – 2 Overall, 2 – 2 – 0 Atlantic 10
Results – Lost 2 – 1 (OT) at George Washington, Won 3 – 1 at Saint Joseph’s
Summary – The Explorers got a split in the week’s games, both on the road. La Salle lost an overtime battle in Washington on a penalty kick. However, the Explorers bounced back to win a conference and city game at Saint Joe’s. Madison Bower got the game-winner at Hawk Hill just before halftime. PENN – 5 – 3 – 4 Overall, 0 – 1 – 2 Ivy League
Results – Tied 0 – 0 (2 OT) at Columbia, Won 5 – 0 vs. American at Rhodes Field
Summary – The University of Pennsylvania had not scored a goal in their past five games including the scoreless draw against Columbia. That changed in just 1:46 into the game against American University on a goal by Paige Lombard. Shasha Stephens scored twice, then Lauren Petite made it a 4 – 0 halftime lead. Lindsey Sawczuk closed the scoring for the Red and Blue. Over the week Penn outshot their opponents by a 43 – 10 margin. Carrie Cook recorded her 4th shutout of the season against Columbia.
Next Game – 10/17 vs. Dartmouth at Rhodes Field
SAINT JOSEPH’S 7 –6 – 0 Overall, 1 – 3 – 0 Atlantic 10
Result – Won 2 – 0 vs. Rhode Island, Lost 3 – 1 vs. La Salle both at Sweeney Field
Summary – The Hawks split their home stand taking a decision over Rhode Island, but fell to city rival La Salle. Emily Gingrich scored a goal and had an assist on the Shannon Mulvey goal against Rhode Island. Hannah Racis registered the other goal in the win. TEMPLE 9 – 5 – 1 Overall, 1 – 3 – 1 AAC
Results – Won 2 – 1 vs. Cincinnati, Tied 0 – 0 (2 OT) vs. ECU both games at the Ambler Soccer Complex
Summary – The Owls got their first win and draw in American Athletic Conference play this week. Gina DiTaranto scored the game-winner and earned an AAC Honorable Mention award for her efforts. Elana Falcone scored the other goal for the Cherry and White in the come from behind win against Bearcats (3 – 1 – 1 in conference). Temple had an 18 – 5 edge in shots against East Carolina forcing net minder Saundra Baron to make 13 saves.

VILLANOVA 1 – 13 – 0 Overall, 0 – 5 – 0 Big East
Results – Lost 1 – 0 (2 OT) at Providence, Lost 3 – 0 vs. DePaul at the Higgins Soccer Complex
Summary – The Wildcats were shut-out twice over the week. Villanova lost in the second overtime at Providence as they were unable to clear the ball from the box in the 103rd minute. DePaul remains unbeaten in the Big East. Wildcats goal keeper Emma Meyer made 5 saves over the week, and Emily Kuefler made a defensive save guarding the post against the Blue Demons.
