Villanova and Temple Season Ends In Conference Quarterfinals, La Salle Enters Post Season Play, and Penn Has One More Regular Season Game

End Of The Season Edition

DREXEL DRAGONS 5 – 10 – 3 Overall, 1 – 6 – 1 CAA

Results – Lost 2 – 0 vs. Delaware, Lost 3 – 0 vs. UNCW both at Vidas Field

Summary –

Delaware 2 Drexel 0 – With the loss the defending CAA Champion Drexel Dragons were eliminated from the CAA race.  The Dragons gave up goals within 16 seconds of one another in the 36th minute to fall out of contention.  The Blue Hens had a 15 – 11 edge in shots, but the Dragons had a 10 – 4 advantage in corner kicks.

UNCW 3 Drexel 0 – The season ended for the Dragons as they were shutout for the second consecutive game.

Next Game – The 2015 Season Opener

LA SALLE EXPLORERS 7 – 8 – 3 Overall, 3 – 3 – 2 Atlantic 10

Results – Won  5 – 0 vs. Saint Bonaventure, Lost 3 – 1 at Duquesne, Won 1 -0 vs. Dayton. Tied 1 – 1 (2 OT) vs. George Mason

Summary –

La Salle 5 Saint Bonaventure 0 – The Explorers scored five first half goals en route to the victory.  The goals were scored by Pat Sullivan, Dan Caya, Bobby Briggs, Joe Farrell, and Joe Hansen.

Duquesne 3 La Salle 1 – Pat Sullivan tied the game for the Explorers in the 22nd minute.  The Dukes answered scoring twice within the next seven minutes to notch the victory.

La Salle 1 Dayton 0 – Matt Robinson scored on a free kick just before halftime giving the Explorers the victory.  Mike Kirk recorded 5 saves in his 6th shutout of the season.

La Salle 1 George Mason 1 (2 OT) – The Explorers took an early lead on a goal by Greg Henry in the 11th minute.  The Patriots tied the game later in the first half.

Next Game – 11/15 vs. Saint Louis in the Atlantic 10 Tournament

PENN QUAKERS – 6 – 8 – 2 Overall, 2 – 2 – 2 Ivy League

ResultsLost 1 – 0 vs. West Virginia, Tied 1 – 1 (2 OT) vs. Brown, Lost 3 – 2 at Princeton

Summary –

West Virginia 1 Penn 0 – Each team had one shot on goal.  West Virginia made theirs count on a Mike Desiderio header.

Penn 1 Brown 1 (2 OT) – Duke Lacroix scored early for the University of Pennsylvania on a penalty kick.  Brown would net the equalizer late in the first half.  Goal Keeper Max Polkinhorne made 8 saves for the Quakers.

Princeton 3 Penn 2 – All five goals were scored in the first half.  Three were scored by the Tigers.  Alec Neumann scored both Penn goals.

Next Game – 11/15 vs. Harvard at Rhodes Field

SAINT JOSEPH’S HAWKS 7 – 7 – 4 Overall, 2 – 5 – 1 Atlantic 10

Results – Won 2 – 1 at Saint Bonaventure, Lost 3 – 0 vs. Davidson, Lost 4 – 0 vs. Dayton

Summary –

Saint Joseph’s 2 Saint Bonaventure 1 – Jake Nelson netted the game winner in the 55th minute.  Mark Coville added a goal and an assist for the Hawks.  SJU goal keeper Bobby Edwards made 5 saves in the final 15 minutes of play.

Davidson 3 Saint Joseph’s 0 – The Hawks were able to put one shot on goal in the contest, a header by Jake Nelson.  Davidson scored early in the game, and then added insurance midway through the second half.

Dayton 4 Saint Joseph’s 0 – The Hawks ended the season as the Flyers scored three second half goals to eliminate SJU from a playoff spot in the Atlantic 10.  Saint Joe’s was shutout for the second straight game.

Next Game – The 2015 Season Opener

TEMPLE OWLS 2 – 14 – 2 Overall, 1 – 6 – 1 AAC

Results – Lost 1 – 0 at Memphis, Lost 5 – 0 vs. UConn in the AAC Tournament

Summary –

Memphis 1 Temple 0 – Owls goal keeper Dan Scheck made 5 saves giving him 198 saves for his career.  However, Jordan Klipsch scored off a corner kick for the Tigers that proved to be the difference.

#1 Connecticut 5 #8 Temple 0 AAC Tournament First Round – The Owls season ended in the American Athletic Conference Quarterfinal round with a 5 – 0 loss to Connecticut.  Temple kept it close in shots as UConn had a 13 – 9 advantage, and an 8 – 4 edge in shots on goals.

Next Game – The 2015 Season Opener

VILLANOVA WILDCATS 8 – 8 – 3 Overall, 3 – 4 – 2 Big East

Results – Won 2 – 0 at St. John’s, Lost 3 – 0 vs. #9 Xavier, Lost 2 – 1 vs. Georgetown, Lost 2 – 1 at Providence in Big East Quarterfinal

Summary –

Villanova 2 St. John’s 0 – The Wildcats got second half goals from Max Kroschwitz and Aaron Dennis to get a road win.  Will Steiner posted his seventh shutout of the season.

#9 Xavier 3 Villanova 0 – The loss snapped a four game win streak for the Wildcats.  Xavier had an 18 – 5 advantage in shots.  Villanova secured the 5th seed in the upcoming Big East Tournament.

Georgetown 2 Villanova 1 – A goal in the 84th minute by Arun Basuljevic was the difference as the Hoyas got the victory.  Andreas Bartosinski scored for the Wildcats in the 43rd minute to tie the game.  Georgetown owned a 15 – 9 advantage in shots.  Aaron Dennis had a game-high 4 shots for Villanova.

#4 Providence 2 #5 Villanova 1 Big East Quarterfinal – The Wildcats jumped out to a 1 – 0 lead as Max Kroschwitz scored in the 35th minute.  That lead would stand until the 38th minute when the Friars tied it on a goal by Markus Naglestad.  Four minutes later Julian Gressel put Providence ahead for the remainder of the game.  The Friars had a 15 – 9 lead in shots.
