Penn and Saint Joseph’s Register Key Wins  – Quakers In Position To Capture Soccer Six Title

Week of September 15 – September 22, 2014 Games

DREXEL DRAGONS 2 – 3 – 2 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 CAA

Results – Tied 1 – 1 at #4 New Mexico, Lost 2 – 1 vs. CSU Bakersfield in the TLC Plumbing & Utility Invitational

Summary –

Drexel 1 #4 New Mexico 1 (2 OT) – Guido Pena scored in the 78th minute to tie the game.  New Mexico had 8 shots in the first 45 minutes, but none after.

CSU Bakersfield 2 Drexel 1 (OT) – Colin McGlynn scored his first collegiate goal to give the Dragons a 1 – 0 lead.  CSU Bakersfield would tie the game in the 65th minute then won it just under 4 minutes into the overtime.  Christian Duarte beat Drexel goal keeper Tyler Afflerbach low to his left.  CSU Bakersfield outshot the Dragons 20 – 6.

Colin McGlynn was named the Soccer Six Rookie of the Week.

Next Game – 9/24 vs. Princeton at Vidas Field

LA SALLE EXPLORERS 1 – 4 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Lost 1 – 0 (OT) at Loyola, Won 3 – 2 vs. Stetson

Summary –

Loyola 1 La Salle 0 – Tied after regulation the Greyhounds scored just 18 seconds into the overtime period to get the win.  Joseph Cahalan put the rebound home to end the game.  Each team had 7 shots.  Explorers goal keeper David Tuchinsky was credited with 3 saves.

Saint Louis 2 La Salle 1 – Matt Robinson scored in the 88th minute off a feed by Joe Farrell to provide the winning goal for the Explorers.  Stetson tied the game in the 68th minute setting the stage for Robinson’s game winner 20 minutes later.  La Salle got goals from George Breslin and Joe Farrell.  The Explorers outshot Stetson 14 – 10.

Next Game – 9/23 vs. Bucknell at McCarthy Stadium

PENN QUAKERS– 3 – 3 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Ivy League

ResultsLost 2 – 1 vs. #12 American, Won 3 – 0 at Temple

Summary –

#12 American 2 Penn 1 – A goal by the Eagles in the 88th minute by Jack Garcia was the difference in the game.  AU took a 1 – 0 lead in the 72nd minute, but Penn tied it just under five minutes later when Alec Neumann scored on an assist by Duke Lacroix.  Penn outshot American 16 – 12.

Penn 3 Temple 0 – The Red and Blue scored their three goals in a 5:27 span in the second half.  In the 63rd minute Duke Lacroix started the run.  Just under 3 minutes later Forrest Clancy scored his first collegiate goal.  Alec Neumann assisted on both goals.  It was 2:39 later when Sam Enfs banged home a rebound to end the scoring.

Alec Neumann was named the Soccer Six Player of the Week.  Max Polkinhorne was named the Defensive Player of the Week.  With a win against Saint Joseph’s, Penn would win the Philadelphia Soccer Six Championship.

Next Game – 9/24 at Penn State

SAINT JOSEPH’S HAWKS 4 – 1 – 2 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Won 5 – 1 at Marist

Summary –h’

Saint Joseph’s 5 Marist 1 – Jake Nelson converted a penalty kick in the 31st minute to give the Hawks a 2 – 1 lead.  Afterward SJU would dominate.  The Hawks held a 3 – 1 lead at halftime.  Saint Joseph’s got goals from Mike Glazer, Emmanuel Temeh, Mark Coville, and Matt Crawford in addition to the tally by Nelson.  The Hawks are just one win away from tying the total number of wins from last season.

Next Game –

TEMPLE OWLS 1 – 5 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 – 1 AAC

Results – Lost 1- 0 (OT) at Fordham, Lost 3 – 0 vs. Penn at Ambler

Summary –

Fordham 1 Temple 0 – The Owls put the pressure on in the first half, but could not get a goal.  Fordham put pressure on in the second half, but did not put the ball past Temple goal keeper Dan Scheck.  In the overtime Andres Penfold ended the game on a penalty kick 9:46 into the session.

VILLANOVA WILDCATS 2 – 3 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Big East

Results – Tied 1 – 1 (2 OT) vs. Monmouth at the Higgins Soccer Complex

Summary –

Villanova 1 Monmouth 1 (2 OT) – Aaron Dennis scored the Villanova goal just 2 seconds prior to halftime.  Monmouth tied the game in the 75th minute as a shot by Jelani Williams sent a low shot from a difficult angle that deflected off the arms of Wildcat goal keeper Will Steiner to tie it.

Next Game – 9/23 at Lehigh
