Villanova Season Ends With Loss To UConn In NCAA Third Round

The season ended for the Villanova Wildcats in the third round of the NCAA Tournament losing to the Connecticut Huskies in Buffalo, NY.  Villanova ended the 2013-14 campaign with a 29 – 5 record.  Connecticut moves on the the Sweet Sixteen at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The Wildcats started quickly getting a 19 – 11 lead on a three-pointer by guard Darrun Hilliard.  The basket put Hilliard over the 1,000 career point mark.  However, that ushered in a scoring drought for the #2 seed.  A UConn 14 – 0 run led to a 25 – 24 halftime lead.

In the second half the Huskies kept control behind 21 second half points by guard Shabazz Napier, who scored a game-high 25 points despite being in foul trouble and having an injured calf.  Villanova got to within 5 points at 56 – 51 with just under 4 minutes to play, but got no closer.

Ryan Arcidiacono scored a team-high 18 points and handed out 6 assists.  James Bell ended his collegiate career with 14 points and 5 rebounds.

Connecticut ended the season for both the Philadelphia schools in the tournament topping Saint Joseph’s and Villanova.
