Villanova 2011 Football Schedule Announced

Villanova University head football coach Andy Talley announced the 2011 Wildcat schedule. The Wildcats will play an 11-game slate in 2011, including eight Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) games and three non conference contests.

The season will kickoff on Thursday, September 1, with the third annual Mayor’s Cup game against the Temple Owls at Lincoln Financial Field. This is the third of four straight openers versus the Owls. The Wildcats won the inaugural Mayor’s Cup battle over Temple with a thrilling 27-24 victory in 2009, while the Owls tallied a 31-24 win last year. Villanova will travel to Towson on Sept. 10 for the CAA opener, before returning to the Main Line for the home opener against Monmouth on Sept. 17. The Wildcats will finish the non conference portion of the schedule on Sept. 24 with a game at defending Ivy League champion Penn.

October begins with a home date versus William & Mary (Oct. 1). Villanova then has back-to-back road contests at New Hampshire (Oct. 8) and at James Madison (Oct. 15). Old Dominion, who will be playing its first season in the CAA in 2011, will be the homecoming opponent on Oct. 22. The October portion of the schedule finishes with Maine visiting Villanova Stadium on Oct. 29.

Villanova will play just two regular season November games. The Wildcats will play at Massachusetts on Nov. 5, before having a bye week on Nov. 12. The season finale is set for Nov. 19 when the Wildcats host arch rival Delaware.

The Wildcats return 23 lettermen and nine starters from last year’s team that went 9-5 overall and advanced to the national semifinals for the second straight year.
