Three Big Five teams received bids to the NIT and WNIT. Saint Joseph’s will play in the NIT while La Salle and Drexel got an invitation to participate in the WNIT.
Saint Joseph’s will be on the road in their NIT opener facing #3 seed Colorado State who posted a 21 – 12 record this season. That game is scheduled for March 18 at 11 PM Eastern time.
The Hawks are in a predominantly western quadrant as the only eastern teams are St. Joe’s and George Washington. New Mexico is the #1 seed, California is the second seed, while Utah Valley is the fourth seed. The winner of the game goes against the winner of the UIC vs. California contest.
In the WNIT the La Salle Explorers and Drexel Dragons will play.
La Salle (18 – 13) received a first round bye. They will play the winner of the Binghamton vs. Mercyhurst game at a date to be determined.
Drexel (21 – 10) plays at St. Bonaventure (16 – 15) on March 19 at 6 PM. If the Dragons advance Middle Tennessee State awaits.
The Dragons and Explorers are on the same side of the bracket. Should the Big Five schools advance, they could not play one another until the semifinal round.
