Dragons Take a 68 – 45 Decision Against The Tigers, Their Largest Margin of Victory Over Towson Since 2019
PHILADELPHIA, PA 1/24/2026 –
A game that was scheduled for Sunday that got moved up due to Winter Storm Fern. A back-to-back for Drexel. Coach Amy Mallon said the day before that it would probably be more fun than a practice. It was as Drexel wins their third consecutive game 68 – 45 against Towson at the DAC. Bottom Line: it was fun for the Dragons.
“Any chance you get to play another game, let alone at home, is a bunch of fun,” said Drexel guard Molly Rullo. “You had a lot of alumni in the stands. Coach said you just got to play for each other. Being a league game is a challenge, so being able to step up and do that tonight was a lot of fun.”
Part of the enjoyment was everyone contributed. Nine Dragons scored, and it was balanced scoring. Rullo led the way with 16 points, her highest point total at the DAC. Amaris Baker added 13 points and Deja Evans scored 10 points to extend her double digit scoring streak to 6 games. Laine McGurk pulled down 9 rebounds, a new career-high. Grace O’Neill had 6 points but grabbed 6 rebounds, handed out 2 assists, 3 steals, and no turnovers. The Dragons can be dangerous when versatile.
“Everyone is capable of doing something different for our team each game,” Rullo said. “I think that’s what is so good about our team is we have so much balance across the roster,”
On offense Drexel went inside to score 32 points in the paint compared to 14 for Towson.
Defense Played a Big Part
The Dragons are starting strong, and much of it has to do with the defense. Drexel lead 19 – 9 after one. They did not let up holding Towson to 26.2% (16 of 61) in field goal percentage. One player posted double figures India Johnson with 16 points. Drexel had 10 steals for the second straight game as seven players had at least one swipe. Towson was held to the second lowest point total of the season.
“We’re looking to tendencies on another team and what they want to do,” Mallon said. “That’s where we’re getting better. Going into today and see them carry over what we did yesterday with the same type of discipline and consistency in it is really important. And that’s important for us heading into the end of January, into February.”
Up Next
The Dragons (11 – 7, 4 – 3) ride a two home wins into the road trips at Monmouth and Northeastern. Drexel started out 0 – 2 in the CAA. Now, they have climbed above .500.
“It’s going to be important that we have confidence in what we’re doing and we stay consistent with it,” said Mallon.
