Temple Wins Its First American Road Game of the Season

Coming off a tough loss against Navy the objective of the Temple Owls is not let one tough loss become another tough loss. They did not posting a 49 – 14 win over Charlotte. The Cherry and White got contributions on both sides of the ball with 5 touchdowns on offense and two on defense. The first time the team accomplished those two units scoring since an October 2022 game at Navy.
With the game tied at 7 in the second quarter the Owls got the lead they would extend through most of the game. At the 10:22 mark quarterback Even Simon gave Temple the lead with a 5-yard touchdown run. The defense stepped up when cornerback Adrian Laing intercepted a pass returning 64-yards for a touchdown and a 21 – 7 lead. HIs pick-six is the first for the Owls since a 2022 game against Tulsa.
Thw Owls would go on to score the next 28 points of the game; a 46-yard touchdown pass from Simon to Kajiya Hollawayne, an 8-yard scoring strike to Peter Clarke, a 1-yard run by Jay Ducker, and culminated by a Louis Frye 64-yard fumble recovery and score with :48 remaining in the third quarter.
The 49’ers got the only 4th quarter score when Zack Wilcke ran it in from 10-yards out.
What the Numbers Say
Simon completed 15 of 22 passes for 194 yards and 3 touchdowns. Simon added 16 rushing yards and his running and throwing touchdowns in the first half was last done when PJ Walker was under center in 2014.
Ducker led the running attack with 114 yards on 9 carries. Hollawayne caught 5 balls for 85 yards. As a team the Owls posted 172 rushing yards and 384 total yards. Colin Chase had the other Temple touchdown.
The defense gave up 357 total yards. Jake Davids ran for 42 yards for the Niners heading their 199 yards while Javen Nicholas had 5 receptions for 50 yards.
