Games of August 30 – September 5, 2021

Villanova Off on a 5 Game Winning Streak, Drexel Unbeaten in Last Four Games

The Villanova Wildcats open the season with a five-game winning streak. Win number five was a 2 – 0 victory over Cornell. Chloe O’Neill leads the offense with 6 goals. The Cats will try to keep it going with a road game at Virginia Tech ….. The Drexel Dragons are on a four-game unbeaten streak after posting a scoreless draw against city rival La Salle, then going to New Jersey to earn a 1 – 0 win over Seton Hall. Annalena O’Reilly got the game winner on a penalty kick in the second half ….. The University of Pennsylvania took an early lead for the first time in recording a 3 – 0 home win over UIC. The Quakers could not keep the momentum going losing for the first time this year 3 – 1 at #25 Hofstra ….. La Salle and Drexel played to a 0 – 0 game at Drexel, then fell 5 – 0 at #16 Rutgers. In the nets goal keeper Jordynn Stallard posted a shutout making 11 saves at Vidas. Freshman goal keeper Michela Auguadro made a career-high 13 saves in the Rutgers game …. The Temple Owls notched their third draw of the season in a 1 – 1 tie with Rider. In the previous game Temple fell 2 – 0 to Towson on the road. Goal Keeper Kamryn did make a penalty kick save in Maryland ….. The Saint Joseph’s Hawks showed signs of improvement. They were tied with #20 Pitt at halftime before giving up three second half goals. The defense then held Maryland to a 0 – 0 tie at Sweeney Field. In the nets goal keeper Katie Cappelletti made 10 saves against Pitt, then set a season-high with 11 against Maryland.

This week Villanova goes to Blacksburg, Virginia on September 9. Drexel hosts UMass Lowell on September 12. Saint Joe’s travels to North Broad Street to meet Temple at the Sports Complex on September in a city battle. La Salle has a September 8th game with Columbia at McCarthy Stadium. Penn takes to the road to play Maryland on September 9.

DREXEL 3 – 1 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 CAA

Results – Tied 0 – 0 vs. La Salle, Won 1 – 0 at Seton Hall

Summary – Drexel had 9 corner kicks against La Salle. O’Reilly netted the game winner in NJ in the second half.

Next Game – September 12 vs. UMass Lowell at Vidas Field

LA SALLE 1 – 3 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Tied 0 – 0 (2 OT) at Drexel, Lost 5 – 0 at #16 Rutgers

Summary – There were no shots on goal in the fist half by either team in the Drexel game. At Rutgers the Knights led 1 – 0 at halftime, then started quickly in the second half scoring within the first two minutes. La Salle faced a 27 – 3 deficit in shots.

Next Game – September 8 vs. Columbia at McCarthy Stadium

PENN –2 – 1 – 1 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Ivy League

Results– Won 3 – 0 vs. UIC, Lost 3 – 1 at #25 Hofstra

Summary – The Red and Blue got goals from Jackie Bruder, Mia Shenk, and Lauren Teuschl against UIC. Hofstra handed Penn their first loss, and had a 17 – 7 edge in shots. Madison Liebman scored the goal for the Quakers that tied the game at 1-each.

Next Game – September 9 at Maryland

SAINT JOSEPH’S  0 – 4 – 2 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 Atlantic 10

Results – Lost 3 – 0 vs. #20 Pitt, Tied 0 – 0 (2 OT) vs. Maryland

Summary – Cappelletti got her second clean slate of the season. She has made 37 saves this season. The Hawks look for their first win and goal in their next game against the Owls.

Next Game – September 9 at Temple

TEMPLE 0 – 2 – 3 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0 AAC

Results – Lost 2- 0 at Towson, Tied 1 – 1 vs. Rider

Summary – The Owls got a goal from Emily Kavanaugh off a corner kick in the Rider game.

Next Game – September 9 at Saint Joseph’s

VILLANOVA 5 – 0 – 0 Overall, 0 – 0 – 0

Results – Won 2 – 0 vs. Cornell

Summary – Chloe O’Neill scored for the Wildcats. She leads the team with 6 goals. Brice McInroy converted a penalty kick. Megan McClay earned her third shutout of the season.

Next Game – September 9 at Virginia Tech
