Saint Joseph’s To Play for a League Championship in Men’s Lacrosse

Saint Joe’s Downs LIU 19 – 11 in NEC Semifinal Game

This is the time of year when a team wants to be consistent and playing their best. Just could be for the Saint Joseph’s Hawks men’s lacrosse team as they defeat LIU 19 – 11 in a Northeast Conference semifinal game on Hawk Hill. Saint Joe’s will host the NEC Championship game on Saturday at home against the winner of Hobart vs. Bryant later today.

The five-time defending regular season champion Hawks clinched the 2021 title on April 24 defeating the LIU Sharks 14 – 13 in a tightly contested game. The Hawks would seize control of this game outscoring the Sharks 5 – 3 in each of the first three periods. Then doubled them up 4 – 2 in the final fifteen minutes. Consistency and playing well, a good combination for success.

Five Saint Joseph’s players scored 3 goals each. Matt Tufano, Levi Anderson, Matt Bohmer, Tucker Brown, and Ryan Doran put the ball into the net thrice. Doran and Tufano also recorded 3 assists. The Hawks took a commanding 45 – 28 edge in shots doubling up the Sharks 32 – 16 in shots on goal. Zach Cole won 23 of his 32 faceoffs. Goalie Tucker Almany saved 5 shots.

Will Snelders scored a game-high 4 goals for LIU. Dylan Villari added 3 counters.

Saint Joe’s rides a nine-game winning streak into the final. The Hawks have advanced the NEC Championship title game three times, the last in 2018. The team seeks its first NEC Tournament crown. By winning they will get an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
