Temple Picked 7th In American Men’s Basketball Preseason Poll

PHILADELPHIA, PA. 10/14/2019 – It is getting to be that time of year. The college basketball season is just around the corner. The American held their basketball media day in Philadelphia. The Temple Owls were picked for 7th place in the Preseason voting of the coaches. Other Owls that were lauded were senior guard Quinton Rose who was selected to the first team. Junior guard Nate Pierre-Louis was a second team selection.

The Houston Cougars and the Memphis Tigers are the preseason co-favorites with each team finishing with 113 points. Temple was selected just behind the UConn Huskies.

Jarron Cumberland of CIncinnati was the Preseason Player of the Year selection while Memphis center James Wiseman earned the unanimous Preseason Rookie of the Year,

Temple is coming off a season where they were an NCAA Tournament selection. This season will be the first for Aaron McKie. He will have ten letter winners back for his inaugural stint as head coach.

Other Preseason First Team selections in addition to Rose were; Cumberland, Wiseman, DeJon Jarreau of Houston and USF guard Laquincy Rideau.

On the second team were; Pierre-Louis, UConn’s Alterique Gilbert and Christian Vital, Alexis Yetna and David Collins of USF, and from ECU Jayden Gardner.

The order of finish was Houston and Memphis with Cincinnati in third place; followed by Wichita State, USF, UConn, Temple, SMU, UCF, Tulsa, ECU, and Tulane.

Temple opens the season on November 5th against Drexel at the Liacouras Center.
