Penn Defeats Columbia, Stays In Contention For A Share Of Ivy League Women’s Lacrosse Title

PHILADELPHIA, PA. 4/24/2014 – The University of Pennsylvania women’s lacrosse team stayed in the mix for a share of the Ivy League Championship.  The Red and Blue needs a win on Saturday at Cornell to win a part of the crown.

The #15 Quakers (9 – 4, 5 – 1) did so by winning easily at home against the Columbia Lions 17 – 4 at Dunning-Cohen Champions Field at Penn Park behind a career-high 6 goals by senior Tory Bensen who has 28 goals this season, a new career-best in a single season.

Penn led 3 – 2 in the first half before going on a 7 – 0 run over the halves to take a commanding 10 – 2 lead.  Bensen scored 4 goals in that stretch.  Nina Corcoran tallied 2 goals and recorded 3 assists in the game.  Kendall D’Amore and Allie Martin registered their first goals on this campaign.

With at win at Cornell on Saturday Penn will win the conference co-championship with Princeton.  It will be the 8th consecutive Ivy Title (won or shared) which is the longest current championship streak in the NCAA.  The Red and Blue can also clinch the #2 seed in the conference tournament by winning in upstate New York.
